The mischievous spirit

Poisons our stream,

Mass madness pervades our land.

We dance

To the music of mercenary minstrels.

The rabble rouser

Robed

Like a rabbi

Rallied the rabble,

His rating rose.

I am infirmed

By the infirmity of body.

They dot on me,

Those bonded

With me by blood.

We mould massive mobs

With powers protruding.

We labour

To demobilize our mobs

Waiting to mob us.

Guns raised,

Feet dance

To lyrics and beats

Of peace songs.

With instruments of violence

They celebrate peace.

Congrats to him

who refuses to be silenced

Even by age.

Congrats to him

On the anniversary of his entry 

Onto this land.

Happy birthday to Wole Soyinka.

At the graveyards

Where companies are buried,

Churches and Mosques

Spring.

Certificates litter homes,

Hunger and anger abound,

Youngsters become gangsters.

Like offspring of zealotry,

Nursed

With breasts of bigotry,

They litter

This land with intolerance.

The sun hides.

The rumble,

The spasm.

The sky spews.

The spew

Floods the Manors.

On the 54th anniversary

Of my entry onto this land,

On the eighth day

Of this eighth month,

I shall be in my den

Listening

To the bla bla bla

Of the brainwashed brethren.

We slept

And woke,

The impossible

Became possible,

Nigeria became Columbia,

Ozubulu became Medellin!

Have Price tags,

Take my scorn!

The suspicion of the Present government and the perceived hauful oligarchy has impelled some people from the verge of paranoia to full scale hallucination. 

To these blissful breed, our sympathy. 

To the innocent who lost their lives, it's too late. Prayer has failed them. To their grieving family, our empathy.

Determined blindness in the midst of consuming evil has propelled some into the company of the schizophrenic whose house burns around them as they insist the heat is from the warmth of the sun.

How many more will be consumed before the self blinded ones will admit the fire is in full rage?

Perhaps only when they feel the flames on their flesh or after the fire has consumed life at such close range its devouring presence can no longer be denied even by the most critical  schizophrenic.

May the season of Madalla, Agatu, Nimbo, Ozubulu and more come to an end.

the secrets of ancient lore;

mortal can mount the heap

abandoned by the Kabiyesi,

the mighty next in command

to the almighty Orisa.

The Olori's body

lacks vicarious authority

that sings the King's impotence,

...eeeewo! Taboo!

If the Olori wags her waist,

you better turn your eyes,

for the scorpion's tail

is not just a mere adornment!

When you somersault

three times, the final one

will not land you in Eden!

To her sleeplessness.

I penned poems

On Olori's loin,

Yet,

I did not die.

but it is not the day he

abuses the Iroko tree that

he should expect retaliation.

you can roll and frolic, and 

live to be many years;

the Iroko never forgets

Interesting proverb coined long before the invention of the railway that demanded hard wood to lay tracks from London to the remotest villages of Scotland.  That gave rise to the chainsaw that saw the Iroko fall while it tarried in contemplation of its retaliation!

My People;

Much as I have little time for native taboos, the only ones that I violate are those that prevent me from worshipping God and serving mankind.  

Violating taboos capriciously - simply for the heck of it, and/or for selfish purpose, say  - sets you on a constant path of uncertain living,  constantly wondering whether the little or big life's misfortunes that are bound to episodically befall us are a result of those taboo violations.  One who dies even twenty years later after cavorting with the ex-Olori, it may be claimed that he would have died twenty-five years later otherwise! Who the heck knows?

Remember that sin is violating God's taboos.  There must also be consequences for violating Man's taboos.

And there you have it.
