"Zakari Mijinyawa

I am wondering why those 'Malams' in Zaria who claim powers of intercession between Man and God in the temporal affairs of men such as marriage, power, business and good fortune have not brought about an improvement in the social and physical well being of the city.

Should they not just summon one Jinn to construct ( place) good schools, hospitals, roads , etc?

Can't they send one Jinni to possess Shekau and another one to possess Al Baghdadi?

I think Nigeria and the world require the use of the powers of these Malams.

Or is it that their powers are not of general application?

Am I missing something ?"

Read the fascinating discussion at the link above, enlivened by the scintillating art of Victor Ekpuk operating at the intersection of Islamic motifs and enigmatic forms, evocative of the magical that is the subject of the discussion.

Oluwatoyin  Adepoju,

I have not read the rest of  your compilation, “the fascinating discussion” and don’t intend to  do so.

The intro alone  reminds me of  the answer  Ahmed  Deedat  gave in reply to a question that  is very similar in implication, to  your friend’s base line, beginning with him “ wondering why those 'Malams' in Zaria who claim powers of intercession between Man and God in the temporal affairs of men such as marriage, power, business and good fortune have not brought about an improvement in the social and physical well being of the city.” Etc etc etc.

It was one of the higher points of the usual debate between  Deedat, affectionately known as D.D. ( Doctor of Divinity) and his usual interlocutor, a man of the cloth and an ardent  member of Christ’s earthly clergy.

All puffed up, man of the cloth rose up to ask  Deedat  what he thought would be the punchline that would clinch his argument , something along these lines , almost his exact words:

So where was  your Allah when Husayn  the grandson of his Prophet Muhammad was being slaughtered on the battlefield of Karbala? Why  did Allah allow it to happen?

Mr. Deedat replied : Allah cried.

Pastor:   Your Allah cried?

Deedat : Yes, Allah cried.  He said, “I could not save my own son, my only begotten one from the crucifixion on the cross  and some preacher is asking you about the grandson of  my Prophet Muhammad!

Dr. Adepoju be not overly impressed by miracles, various types of magic, self-hypnosis, post hypnotic suggestions etc.   I should still like to recommend Rabbi Yaakov  Hillel’s  Faith and Folly : The Occult in Torah Perspective

Than are dreamt of in your philosophy”
