Dear Colleagues
Two events of note happened of recent. The first were the flaks sent by my compatriot, Asari Dokubo, at the Northern elites for their parasitic status in the Nigerian polity. In an interview he granted a National Newspaper, Dokubo argued that one of the major problems confronting people in the Niger Delta was the inability of NOrthern Nigeria to exist in the abscense of the resources being explored in the Niger Delta. In other words, the Niger Delta would be better off if once the North cease expecting to be fed, like a child in the cradle, from the "milk" that the Nigerian Nation continuously take away, without much gratitude, from the Delta. Dokubo's comment generated, as expected a quick rebuttal from the Northern elite. A governor from the elite argued, using the historical method, that before the discovery of oil in the Niger Delta, the Nigeria nation had depended on the Northern "pyramid"; on the
groundnut, the gum arabic and other minerals that were mined in the north and sold on behalf of the Nigerian nation. The Northern elite are still reacting to "the Dokubo snipes".
But concerned citizens of the Nigerian nation cannot but wonder whether, in line with the boss of the EFCC, those at the helm of affair do not actually need to go for psychiatric test. This becomes pertinent when of recent we were shocked to hear that a "Son-of-the-soil", a citizen of the Niger-Delta in charge of the NDDC, appropriated unto himself around 270million naira. In doing that he refused to follow the precedent set by former governor of Bayelsa State by taking the money out of Nigeria. Instead of taking the money out of Nigeria in order to make the Britain or America richer he decided to take the money to the shrine; he took the money to voodoo practitioner. He wanted the latter to assist him prepare a ritual that will lead to either the death of another Niger-Deltan or his paralysis...In the Nigerian dailies today, we read that he his still battling to raise the 50million bail bond that the Judge has decided on before he can
have a respite from the prisons...
The above not only leaves one in wonderment but also casts serious doubts on the disconnet between the grim reality of life of the ordinary Niger-Deltan and those in charge of making life better there. In other words, I cannot but imagine the kind of magic that 270 milliion will perform in the life of teenager on the 'desert" landscape of Ethiope. But another news soon awaken me to another reality. Nigerians have been told that during the Obasanjo maximum reign and sovereignty over Nigeria over 1 trillion naira cannot be accounted for in the treasury...Is it not true that these people in government really need to for psychiatry tests...while we are pondering that, the looting continues |
