Hugo Chavez calls Barack Obama 'a poor ignoramus'

The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, has described his US counterpart Barack Obama as a "poor ignoramus" during a television show.

The controversial leftist leader lampooned Mr Obama for apparently saying Mr Chavez had been exporting terrorism.

"Now they are going to accuse me of exporting terrorism? At the very least we could say 'poor ignoramus'. He should study so that he knows the reality of Latin America."

Mr Chavez also said Mr Obama had accused him of being an "obstacle to development in Latin America," without specifying where or when Mr Obama had supposedly made the comments.

"Such ignorance," Mr Chavez said during his weekly television address, "the real obstacle has been the empire that he today presides over, which has exported terrorism for nearly 200 years, has launched atom bombs on innocent cities, has bombarded, invaded and issued orders to kill whenever they have taken the notion."

Mr Chavez's comments come after a meeting on Thursday with US Democratic congressman William Delahunt, who is seen as testing the water for a normalisation of relations between the two countries.

Abdul,
What made Chavez a Pan- Africanist? I think that we can call him a socialist, a populist, a Fidelista, a Bolivarian
or a Latino but not a pan-Africanist - but maybe you have some special information at your disposal.

I would hesitate also to call Fidel Castro a pan- Africanist even though he sent Cuban troops to
liberate Angola from apartheid South Africa's incursions and devoted a great deal of resources in assisting Black South Africans
through health and education personnel.

But, having said that, I am quite willing to change my views on this issue when you
provide relevant information about the pan- Africanist credentials
of Chavez.

How much more Pan-Afrikan can anyone be?

Are Fidel Castro and Che Guevera considered Pan-Afrikanists?  Without a doubt. They fought to liberate Afrika and proud of their Afrikan ancestry.
The Great Pan-Afrikanist Thomas Sankara, paid Cuba a visit, thanked Castro and our Cuban Family, and wrote eloquently about this. See also Che Guevera's diaries.

OK, Abdul. I note your clarification but
I would add that Fidel, Hugo and Che were anti -colonial globalists.
They were revolutionaries struggling against
the legacies of colonialism and racial and class domination
every where.

On a different note,
I have just added a new video documentary:

'Focus on Africa with Professor Tunde Zack-Williams'

It can be viewed from 'africahistory.net.'
Professor Zack-Williams
reflects on China and Africa, Mali .... and much more.

just a question. Does anti-imperialism exclude panafricanism? Or are these attitudes and policies complementary?

I met the medical personnel sent by Cuba in Namibia; They received nothing from the local authorities and the local people other than appreciation.

Well these policies and attitudes are complementary- but the terms are not synonymous.
