if anyone doesn't know, colson whitehead wrote a powerful novel on  Nickel boys school in jim crow florida that rehearses scenes of abuse of orphaned or incarcerated youths, with a mass graveyard very much like what we are reading about these days in the canadian schools for indigenous youth. the novel is called The Nickel Boys and it won the 2020 pulitzer prize for fiction.
