A firebrand senator from Niger State, Idris Kuta, is dead. A competent family source told Leadership Sunday last night that Kuta died after being ill for some time. His remains was taken to Minna yesterday.

Kuta was an avid anti- third term senator while the debate to elongate the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo lasted on the floor of the National Assembly.

Consequently, like many other anti-third term lawmakers, he lost his re-election bid last year.

The late senator had represented Niger East Senatorial District (Zone B) of Niger State three times before his death. He is survived by wives and children.

The senator was born on October 1, 1942.
