Even as a Catholic, I find it very ironic that the Pope (with heavy security around and within the Vatican) engages in such patronizing rhetoric. Perhaps, he has some uninformed or misinformed advisors. Furthermore, many critics of 45/47 either act in bad faith or seem unable or unwilling to understand his FIGURATIVE language. This Chicago-raised first USAmerican  pope also apparently forgets THE crusades.

Dr Oohay,

You have the temerity to say “ This Chicago-raised first USAmerican  pope also apparently forgets THE crusades. “ ?

There's the  WSJ article on Why Pope Leo Is Such a Challenging Opponent for Trump

His Holiness the Pope - no dictator is he, was democratically elected, presumably guided by the Holy Spirit ! The world waited anxiously for the white smoke to come curling out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel , and I for one prayed that it would be an American Pope this time. Consequently, there is of course a plurality of voices and all kinds of disagreements within ( and outside) the Holy Catholic Church. I’m not surprised for instance that you may even find some succour in a kindred spirit namely your fellow anti-marxist, the retired Cardinal Robert Sarah inveighing against “the dangers” of Islam, braying here,  “Wake up. Islam is a danger. If Christians don't start caring about our faith, Islam will take over the West.”

This was my reply to that item in Facebook :

Cardinal Robert Sarah hails from Guinea Conakry a Muslim majority country where Muslims and Christians live amicably, side by side. He could at the very least, show some charity, some Christian tolerance.

Instead of endorsing - even cautiously, the spirit of Pope Leo XIV’s message on Islam he seems to be hell-bent in resurrecting the ghost of Eurabia and the Gates of Vienna

The  inflammatory, dangerous, provocative, self-infatuated bigotry issuing from Cardinal Sarah can only contribute to promoting the Islamophobia and xenophobia and fear of the other that is already bedevilling anti-immigration Fortress Europe.

Surely, gone and never to return are the times of the inquisition and other devil-inspired pogroms, witchhunts, antisemitism, Holocaust and religious persecution.

Cardinal Robert Sarah and his faction ought to be more familiar with Hans Kung (

He should continue with the peaceful propagation of his faith and leave some room for what Bishop Krister Stendahl referred to as “ holy envy”

I believe myself to be familiar with the subject matter and prepared to discuss or debate it ad infinitum…

Maga-ism trumps Catholicism, apparently.
