Gloria:

Africa is imploding. Options are:

  1. A vigorous pursuit of a Pan-African agenda, with far-reaching consequences around borderless zones;
  2. The conversion of older identities into autonomous nations;
  3. Semi-autonomous nations within current countries, etc.

None will be easy. The people of Sokoto have more affinity with those in Niger. Sokoto to Niamey is no more than 600 kilometers, shorter than Sokoto to Ibadan.

I was part of the delegation to congratulate Abiy Ahmed for winning the Nobel, and many are now traumatized over recent developments.

It is complicated.

When I found out that about
 a thousand federal troops of the Northern
 Command, based in Mekelle, were kidnapped and
Imprisoned by the TPLF, in November 2020, before
the outbreak of war, I recognized Abiy’s
predicament. If he did nothing
he could have faced a nationwide mutiny of
soldiers. Who knows? The military may have
staged a coup against him. So his declaration
of war was hardly by choice.

A real ceasefire on both sides and a united
Ethiopia  is the best option.
