The next Nigerian Minister of Education
we should perhaps start to debate who becomes the next minister of education in Nigeria, it has become for me the most important of ministers and no longer the minister of justice and attorney general What kind of minister of education? should we change the name of the ministry to Education and skills? what should be the emphasis, ?primary education or tertiary education? J F ajayi ,late prof had affirmed it was twisted thinking to affirm primary education. what should be our strategy? what or who should bola Tinubu choose?
it sems we have had two major schools of thought for education in nigeria, onone side, the higher education club as i found professors oladipo akinkugbe and JF ajayi on the other side you found Babatunde Aliyu Fafunwa of the mother tongue and primary education school have had some notable Nigerians from their olympian heights make their views known on way forward for education and interestingly they all stress the importance of early childhood education , this could be seen in Morning by morning, the autobiography of Ayo Banjo, ex chairman National universities commission ex primary school teacher,ex secondary school teacher an ex vice chancelllor, africas richest man Aliko Dangote last year in article for the Financial times of london threw his weight behind early childhood education ame goes with 'Folakemi Fatogbe an Afro passionate multi preneur in a recent article on serial entrepreneurship. lastly dr adigun abiodun fformerly of the united nations highest body on outerspace affairs also had much to state about erly childhood education in his book,Nigerias Space journey. but the quesion is what should be the strategy and what kind of minister of education do we neeed.
