as for gloria and my, and moses's, comments on governance, we have a situation where the problem is one man rule, one party rule, with no competing figures to balance the power.
moses's ideal, a governance by consensus, seems very distant from this reality of power. whether it is military or not, one party or one ruler staying in power is almost always a recipe for disaster. hard to think of exceptions. nyerere in tanzania was good,
though some tanzanians felt the heavy hand of the state and were unhappy. but compared with most others, he was a mzee. it is hard to think of other good models. i am sure there are a few. senghor was terrible in 1968, but not so bad over the years. but consider
the opposite, like mobutu or amin, or, many would say, museveni, or kagame, etc etc deby, biya, ....abacha.
mostly nigeria does well in comparison with all this misfit regimes.
