There’s the popular perception, at least by property speculators that “the land of Israel is God’s most expensive piece of real estate”.The Prophet Moses who never himself set foot in the promised land, did not necessarily foresee or prophesy about this sudden rise in prices or about later developments - the destruction of the 1st and 2nd temple, Jesus, the Galut/ exile - the Prophet of Islam - sallallahu alaihi wa salaam, Hitler, the Holocaust, the Nakba, suffice it to say that according to this circuitous argument presented as an introduction to Parashas Bereishi/ Genesis in the Stone Edition Chumash

“We begin the study of the Torah with the realisation that the Torah

is not a history book, but the charter of man's mission in the

universe. Thus, in his very first comment, Rashi cites Rav Yitzchak

who says that since the Torah is primarily a book of laws, it

should have begun with the commandment of the New Moon ( Exodus 12:

2) , the first law that was addressed to all Jewry as a nation. He

explains that the reason for the Torah's narrative of creation is to

establish that God is the sovereign of the universe. “He declared

to His people the power of His works in order to give them the

heritage of the nations.” (Psalm 111.6) If the nations accuse

Israel of banditry for seizing the lands of the seven nations of

Canaan, Israel can respond, “ The entire universe belongs to God. He

created it and He granted it to whomever He deemed fit. It was His

desire to give it to them and then it was His desire to take it

from them and give it to us.”

I said “circuitous “ because the question arising is, can God change his mind?

But back to the present for just as the Zionist bard crowed,

“Come writers and critics

Who prophesize with your pen

And keep your eyes wide

The chance won't come again

And don't speak too soon

For the wheel's still in spin

And there's no tellin' who

That it's namin'

For the loser now

Will be later to win

For the times they are a-changin'”

Before Hamas struck - and was allowed to strike on 7th October 2023, the inhabitants of Sderot  - also known as “the bomb shelter capital of the world” - you got that right: THE BOMB SHELTER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD  - Sderot and environs close to the Israel-Gaza border had been in an uncertain situation for years - periodically having to run for cover at the sound of sirens heralding a barrage of unfriendly firecrackers, rockets, missiles being fired in their direction from their neighbours in Gaza.

Well I got this mail yesterday from ToI Real Estate <newsl...@timesofisrael.com

“Near Gaza, apprehensive returnees trickle back home to revive deserted communities * Housing snapshot feature * Commercial property prices take a tumble”

Here’s the rest of the property news :

“ Trickle back home”, eh? Well, that’s good news. Hopefully, if there’s a ceasefire and a peace deal and the mayhem doesn’t escalate into a full regional war they won’t have to be hurrying for cover for a while. Can you imagine Bibi or his best buddy Joe Biden as one of the residents in Sderot, having to run for cover as fast as his presidential legs can carry him, on hearing the first warning blast of the siren and the loudspeakers blaring, “The Russians are coming!”
