It's a step forward that's better than anything that has yet emanated from a world body. It is a court order from the world's only World Court. Let's watch and see what follows.

When will Putin be arrested on basis of the subsisting arrest warrant issued by the ICC?

What do the rulings of courts mean without enforcement. We had rulings like this by courts made up of bertrand russell and sartre in vietnam….if anyone remembers. Symbolic, and for me important. But i know a court without enforcement means nothing in international affairs, as schmidt would have put it

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju,
Your question is reminiscent of VS Naipaul asking about Soyinka: “Has he written anything?

Likewise, the Neo-Nazi might soon be telling the world that “the ICJ is pissing on the ongoing kosher genocide in Gaza from great illegal heights

Your question, “Has the court really done anything decisive?” and the issues arising are being discussed, not least of all by diverse legal brains including apologists for the ongoing genocide which they say is not a genocide, and that with God the true judge looking from above, witnessing the carnage,  to His Glory, they His children intend to continue with the decimation of Palestinians until their aim of wiping out Hamas is achieved  They reason that only God can stop them.

Chidi,

It would seem that Putin is wary about travelling to some places abroad, for fear of being arrested. Lurking in the background, hiding behind your question about Vladimir Putin, is the real question that you want to ask, and the question is, When will the ICC issue an international arrest warrant for Netanayahu ?

After such an arrest warrant is issued, despite all his big talk and bravado, and being best buddies with Biden, he will never travel to e.g. Sudan, or Iran, where they would take him hostage on arrival at the Imam Khomeini International Airport in accordance with the Islamic Principle, IF SHIT HAPPENS; TAKE A HOSTAGE !

In Netanyahu’s case, the Mullahs would rejoice, Allah has delivered the little Satan into our hands and tell Joe Biden that his friend will only regain some freedom in exchange for all the Palestinians being illegally detained in the West Bank, 1967 borders, compensations for the Palestinian victims of the Holocaust and the destruction and looting of their properties etc, etc etc etc, you know the other demands that would be made.

The only sad thing for Netanyahu in such a scenario is that there are some of his own chosen people in Israel and the Diaspora who might implore the Mullahs in Iran, “please keep him, we don't want him”

Everyone prefers Devarim / Deuteronomy 28: 1 - 14

Devarim/ Deuteronomy 28:15 - 68 is no joking matter

Mazi Cornelius,

Why can't Putin be arrested inside Russia? Is Russia not part of the world (jurisdiction of the World Court)?

Lurking in the background, hiding behind my question is rather the perspective Ken provided here.

Thanks.

Mighty congratulations to South Africa and its political class, which demonstrably, have not forgotten their history of a prolonged struggle against institutionalized racism that was based on the doctrine of White Supremacy, which, in their case, was known as Apartheid. Here in the USA, a similar social system of institutionalized racism was known as Jim Crow.

South Africa's non-violent action direct of taking Israel to the World Court over the Palestinian tragedy demonstrates what a people, who are conscious of their history, can do to help others similarly in need. It is a case study of applied history. As the Great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, put it, "Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere." South Africa’s experience with Apartheid, of going through the eye of the storm of institutionalized racial bigotry, apparently imbued the South African political elite with an acute sensitivity to racial injustice, racial apartheid. I hope that the contemporary elite of South Africa would see to it that that memory, that legacy of the anti-Apartheid struggle, is preserved and trans-generationally nourished through their country’s formative educational systems.

The World Cup Interim Judgement represents a symbolic victory for South Africa in particular and Africa as a whole, for, as a moment in this human journey on earth, it served, once again, to remind the world of a signifying vibe of milk of human kindness that Africa projects to the world, despite its own share of human frailties, despite its own internal contradictions.

Though not comparable in its particularities, South Africa’s World Court victory reminds one of the 1896 Battle of Adowa when Ethiopia, using weaponry that was not as technologically advanced as the invaders,’ routed an invading army from Italy. South Africa’s symbolic victory at the world court rekindles our memory of what David was capable of in his Battle against Goliath.

If I may add, there used to be a time when South Africa's northern big brother, Nigeria, also used to stand tall in the international arena, particularly during the heyday of the liberation struggles in Southern Africa, including its epicenters of then apartheid South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, and Mozambique. It was a time period when Mozambique’s Samora Machel (29 September 1933 – 19 October 1986) fired the imagination of the African youth with his battle cry of “A luta continua” (the Struggle Continues) as he led his nation’s fight for freedom from Portuguese forces of occupation. Permit me to recommend that as part of a compulsory exposure to a two-sequence course on decolonized African history, our university kids--across the board--should be made aware of that history of a period in Nigeria's political evolution when it was a pride to be called a Nigerian on the international stage.

Chidi,

Yeats here: Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

“Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,

Enwrought with golden and silver light,

The blue and the dim and the dark cloths

Of night and light and the half light,

I would spread the cloths under your feet:

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;

I have spread my dreams under your feet;

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams”

Since they are conscious that they are setting a precedent, if only the ICJ had not been guilty of soft pedalling, some will say, pussyfooting in this their tentative judgement, or is it a final judgement based on the collective evidence, to date? I was expecting that since they have the power to do so, in the true spirit of pikuach nefesh, they would have issued a straightforward declaration that read,

“ Israel, as your GOD and the whole world and you yourselves know, all the indices point to the incontrovertible fact that you are as guilty as hell of committing a systematic, ongoing genocide of the hapless people of Gaza. You must stop this immediately - or else - God’s holy wrath! Remember the last time He sent Nebuchadnezzar and it was through dear Ezra that the nation was restored to a semblance of sanity.  Fast forward: after many other trials and tribulations there was  Hitler followed by the Nuremberg Trials, cries of  “ Never again!”, and today, the 27th of January is Holocaust Remembrance Day, even as you continue your Sabbath-bombing of Gaza. Remember: God is not mocked! The lesson that Hillel taught in ON ONE FOOT - is, "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah, all the rest is commentary

Israel's Most Genocidal Potential Weapon Exposed

You know how seriously I take you. I take you seriously because, unlike that big grammar buffoon anc clown, when you are not playing devil’s advocate or poetically pouting with tongue in cheek you are only being ironic, sarcastic, and otherwise, like ice, like fire, completely sincere - a possible answer to Joni’s prayer in Same Situation:

“Still I sent up my prayer

Wondering where it had to go

With heaven full of astronauts

And the Lord on death row

While the millions of his lost and lonely ones

Call out and clamour to be found

Caught in their struggle for higher positions

And their search for love that sticks around

Still I sent up my prayer

Wondering who was there to hear

I said Send me somebody

Who's strong and somewhat sincere

With the millions of the lost and lonely ones

I called out to be released

Caught in my struggle for higher achievements

And my search for love

That don't seem to cease”

I’m not a military man or an expert on criminal or international law; my background, none of it formal studies, is limited to Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, some war poetry - starting with Wilfred Owen and most of all the rest before and after him, enough to sensitise even the most hardened soul, the most hardened war criminals and the most hardhearted rabbis, hearts made of rocks and solid stone, completely lacking in the quality known as chesed, admittedly, too much of which was a weakness in Saul, the first king of Israel. I hope that I’m not sounding like the New Testament calumny of the holier-than-thou Pharisee in contrast with the tax collector since I’m neither nor of the either-or - and if you check out R. Travers Herford’s The Pharisees, you get a completely different picture of those second temple period ancestors of today’s ultra-orthodox rabbis some of whom are for, whilst others are against the ongoing carnage in Gaza

I should add that as an avid student of the history of the Second World War with more than just a modest acquaintance with the literature including witness testimonies dealing with the Holocaust - here’s a short guide: The Holocaust  - A Reader - Edited by Simone Gigliotti and Berel Lang and that that is the background to my concern about the ongoing carnage in Gaza.

True: Great minds think alike and that’s why you believe that lurking in the background hiding behind your question ( “ When will Putin be arrested on basis of the subsisting arrest warrant issued by the ICC?”) is Professor Harrow’s well-known anti-Russian Perspective, giving you the backup and the succour that both of your purified hearts desire.

This does not mean to subvert the true purpose of justice or to undermine the question of why  - once the international warrant for the arrest and extradition of Benjamin Netanyahu and his accomplices to face the music at the ICC, the war criminals cannot be arrested in Israel as a logical consequence of their crimes.

In your opinion, which of these crimes is more serious: the corruption charges against Netanyahu or the execution of his genocidal intentions which have so far resulted in the death toll in Gaza of at least 26,083 Palestinians killed and 64,487 wounded by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war which translates into  - according to the United Nations report from seven days ago, more than 16, 000 women and children killed since start of the war in Gaza

Since the 23rd of November 2023, 2 Million People Displaced in Gaza

# “You know how seriously I take you. I take you seriously because, unlike that big grammar buffoon anc clown” should read “You know how seriously I take you. I take you seriously because, unlike that big grammar buffoon and clown”

Should read: “ This does not mean to subvert the true purpose of justice or to undermine the question of why  - once the international warrant has been issued for the arrest and extradition of Benjamin Netanyahu and his accomplices to face the music at the ICC, the war criminals cannot be arrested in Israel as a logical consequence of their crimes.”

The problem for those who want to bring such a rogue state to justice is that Israel is not a signatory to the ICC, nor, technically speaking, are any of the secular bandits currently ruling the so-called holy land, signatories of the Divine Constitution given at the birthing of the nation at Mt.Sinai, or the later elaborations known as the 613  mitzvot. In their own self-defence, they could say that they were not there - at Mt.Sinai. But that is no excuse for not signing the ICC protocol.

It’s ditto with Uncle Sam - they have also refused to sign on to the ICC Convention  because they know that they intend to commit a couple of war crimes,

And he knows he shouldn't kill

And he knows he always will kill

It’s a long list of the crimes they have committed here and there and everywhere - land, sea, and air - on Japan ( Hiroshima and Nagasaki) in Korea, in Vietnam (various American war crimes, the My Lai Massacre, the use of napalm, the infamous footage of the napalm girl ) innumerable war crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq:  The Number Of Iraqis Slaughtered In US War And Occupation Of Iraq "1,455,590" that’s the figure available at this reliable source:
