Professor Amidu Olalekan Sanni to Interview Imam Ahmad
Professor Amidu Sanni combines his Vice Chancellorship of Fountain University with his position as the Chief Imam of Lagos State University, the latter office since 1984 when the university was founded. Sanni is a Professor of African and Middle Eastern Studies who has given keynote and guest lectures at several European and Middle Eastern universities, including the University of Texas at Austin, the USA, on three occasions. Until he was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo, he had worked with the Lagos State University (LASU) (1984-2018), during which he served in various capacities as the Dean of Arts, a member of Senate, the Governing Council, among others. His tenure as the Dean of Students Affairs at LASU remains a point of reference in reforming the campus. Professor Sanni obtained his PhD from the University of London as a Commonwealth Scholar in 1989 and has won several awards, including the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, the University of Leiden-Scaliger, and the British Chevening (Oxford) Fellowship. He has participated at many international conferences and worked as a Visiting Professor in universities in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. He is a fellow of several professional societies, including the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies. He has over 250 publications to his credit and is involved in several community and humanitarian services. He has just put in place at Iragbiji, Osun State, a project named AREP (Academic and Rehabilitation Empowerment Project) for youth with drug and behavioural challenges.
