An essential difference between the US Presidential Elections and the Election of the next Pope is that with the latter the contending cardinals do not set off on the campaign trail, canvassing from coast to coast 

Here too, the hope of the faithful is clear : May the cardinals at the Conclave cast their ballots, guided by the Holy Spirit. May the best man win 

Now that the Conclave to elect the next Pope is in session 

we are all waiting with various degrees of anxiety
