Ivanka Trump, Senior Adviser to US President Donald Trump and the President's daughter, was on a maiden official visit in Africa from April 14-17, 2019 to promote her Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative in Africa.
She was accompanied by the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development; the Acting President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a U.S. Government agency that helps American businesses invest in emerging markets; other top US officials; and joined by a bipartisan US Congressional delegation.

Traveling with Ethiopian Airlines, from Addis Ababa to Abidjan, Ms Trump was embraced with African hospitality, far from the partisan battles - roforofo - "Inside the Beltway" on wedge or polemical matters that seem to be of importance primarily to warring officials of the U.S. federal government, to the contractors and lobbyists, and to the corporate media that cover them—as opposed to the interests and priorities of the general U.S. population, and baffling to regular people in Africa.
Yet the consequences may resonate in the four corners of the world to the extent that the policy or encroachment becomes domestic anxieties in far flung places.

Ivanka Trump arrived in Ethiopia on April 14, 2019 hailing Addis Ababa as the “diplomatic capital of Africa and the continent’s highest city.”
During her 4-day visit from Ethiopia to Ivory Coast, she was an embodiment of graciousness and was, in turn, greeted with the quintessential or trademark African hospitality from African women - and men.

Foreign Aid is Not Free
The adage: "do not look at a gifted horse in its mouth" conveys the idea that it is inappropriate, impolite, or even bad manners to examine the value of a gift because it is supposedly free of charge. The basic truth is that there is no free foreign aid. There is a trade-off because the donors need something. Instead of using threats, military invasion, and wars (hard power), they use aid/grants and other incentivized diplomacy (soft power) to achieve an aim to their interests.
