Emeka Reuben Okala:

Thanks a bunch for your comments on my behalf with respect to my call for thorough investigation of Boko Haram sponsors, and the more broad calls about investigations of allegations of corruption and even Ebola in Nigeria.  I did not confine my call to Ihejirika, or to Bunu Sheriff, but the hackneyed ethnic dogs of war only read a name and they start to bark - typically irrationally.    Please be re-assured that my call for investigations is neutral - the outcome will either indict or free the alleged "accused" , or lead to even more investigations.

That Stephen Davis spent at least two months, probably four months with Boko Haram persons in Nigeria - in self-confessed association with an Igbo-woman-convert-to-Islam with close ties to Boko Haram who unsuccessfully tried to negotiate the Chibok girls release - is NOT in question.  Clearly he was given an entry visa by the Nigerian government, even if he was not hired DIRECTLY by the Nigerian government, so whether he exaggerates or not, or has a hidden agenda, his allegations cannot just be dismissed with a wave of hand.  I repeat that this was what got Ambassador John Campbell to be repeatedly dismissed years before now, before BH became the monster that it is presently.

Intriguing question:  did Ihejirika meet Stephen Davis in the company of this Igbo Muslim intermediary, and he was confused about their seeming ease with each other because of common language facility?  Just a thought that Sherlock Holmes would have followed, and sent Dr.Watson to go after...

Moving on.....

As to Nebukadineze Adiele's foaming-in-the-mouth diatribe against me, he is acting his usual hackneyed, egregious and irrationally anti-Christian-agnostic-heathenistic self, with a seriously knee-jerk pro-Igbo and post-partum rabidly Biafranist disease which induces an egregious and hateful disrespect for all non-Igbos in Nigeria, including  constantly referring to the Yoruba and all Northerners derogatorily as "Yoroba" and "Awusa" respectively.  He does not belong in polite society in Nigeria with hope of ethnic harmony, despite his language facilities.  He is not alone, but he is the poster-boy and drum-major for the promotion of ethnic hatred in Nigeria.

Now let me address his polemical, age-old and dredged-up bomb-throwing allegation against me.  As a high-profile pro-democracy activist abroad with a Chemical Engineering background at a time when bombs were indeed being episodically thrown ostensibly against Government and non-Government targets in NIgeria during the June 12 crisis (June 12 1993-June 8, 1998), I was a legitimate suspect.  I did not and therefore do not consider the allegation against me as preposterous, even though I know FOR A FACT that it was untrue.....I was NEVER in a meeting where violence was discussed, conceived or operationalize during the pro-democracy period.   My father's  self-stated defence of myself before Abacha over the bombing allegation was NOT because I told him that I was NOT involved in planting bombs in Nigeria, but just a father's previous knowledge and belief that his son would NOT be doing so - but how many fathers have been misled by their children?

But again, let me repeat: I was NOT involved, but again suspicion against me was not preposterous.

But we know exactly what was happening at that point: a one-time victim Buba Marwa (who was then Lagos State military governor;  his house was attacked twice or so) cried out about it, saying information available to him showed that it was NOT the Opposition targeting him but rather some deeply nefarious people:  It was ACTUALLY people in Abacha's government THROWING bombs against itself, and then PLANTING such allegations against the Opposition, who kept denying it.  The idea was first to TARGET some identified internal enemies (even within the government,  probably to lower their high profiles) and then to make the Opposition to look bad before the Nigerian people, who reflexively reject violence.

So to believe that it is completely PREPOSTEROUS for inside persons to behave irrationality and commit (or support) violent acts against the government that they are a part of is not commensurate with experience in Nigeria - just see our recent history.

The final point that I wish to make is that at no time did my father or Abacha indicate that my name was taken out of the Terror Watch list of the Abacha government.  In fact, I have reported here that for two or three years into the succeeding government of Obasanjo's civilian regime, I was ALWAYS stopped and pulled aside at the airports to explain myself  as I came in and out of Nigeria from the US.  It was only after I made a STRONG protest that my name should either be REMOVED from some watch list, or I be called in for investigation - I asked Mr. Femi Falana to make a statement on my behalf - that the haranguing at the airport stopped.  So clearly, my name LINGERED after the Abacha regime, and must have been investigated and cleared.

Finally, the main point of the plea was for people to allow Ihejirika to ANSWER for himself;  he is old enough -

   - not Marily Ogar at the first drop of a hat:  http://thenationonlineng.net/new/ihejirika-not-boko-haram-sponsor-dss/

It is this comfort that a group will come to one's defence and raise all kinds of flags about religion, or feminism, patriotism or ethnicism, etc. that continues to make corruption and bad behavior of all kinds to fester in Nigeria.

Finally, finally, General Ihejerika, a fine man that I have once met in Aso Villa during a visit, has begun to defend himself, and that is good:

•Alleges plot against Nigeria

By Kingsley Omonobi

Chief of  the Army  Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, said, weekend, that the nation was yet to come to terms with the fact that Boko Haram and its sponsors are out to bring down Nigeria,  pointing out that this is why citizens were buying into what he called the fourth dimensional media warfare being waged  in support of the insurgency.

Speaking at the quarterly re-union of the 18th  Regular Course Alumni in Abuja, Ihejirika, apparently reacting to the allegation of  an  Australian, Stephen Davies, said, “I want say it here that there is no reason whatsoever for me to be angry. I will however say that from the happenings in the country, it is obvious that we are yet to come to terms with the magnitude of the terrorists plot to bring down our nation and utterances like that only serve to assist them in their bid to bring down this democracy”.

And there you have it.  That is all that some have asked for, without any giving a truth or lie to the allegations.

I am largely done on the thread, no matter the stupid interventions of Nebukadineze Adiele and his frenetically lunatic ilk.

Pastor Okala,
There are situations, in any investigative process, where certain allegations are ruled out (where there is no motive and the allegation is planted to distract or throw off investigators). If I were investigating rapists of grandmothers in Egbema and some suspected rapists told me that you, pastor Okala, were their sponsor (simply because they saw you damn rapists on the pulpit), do you think that I would not summarily rule you out of such obvious distracting allegation?

An Australian man who woefully failed in his assignment, of negotiating peace with boko haram, turns around to utter an absolutely senseless allegation -- that the Chief of Army Staff was sponsoring boko haram even though he (COAS) was leading the war against boko haram. What was Stephen Davies' (the failed Australian) source? The same boko haram whom General Ihejirika was destroying, yet some Nigerians are so unintelligent as to make some sense of this allegation, even up to calling for an investigation?

Did Stephen Davies submit any report to any agency or to any organization? No! But because he wants his assignment back, he puts out just about any allegation and for that he is in the news, to the point of some Nigerians hailing him. Tufiakwa!

Chukwuemeka, it shocks me that you often allow your friendship with Bolaji Aluko to blind you from seeing his nefarious side. How could you not comprehend that Bolaji got across his inciting message while pretending to be objective? According to you, he dismissed the allegation but at the same time called for it to be investigated. Well, an honest or objective person would not speak in that manner -- it is either the allegation is preposterous or it is worthy of investigation. Bolaji was being, what the late Valentine Ojo would call, being smart by half. That type of cunningness, by Yoroba intellectuals, was what laid the groundwork for the genocide visited upon innocent Igbo civilians in the North between 1966 and 1967.

My dear Chukwuemeka, some of us have had some training in deciphering coded languages. Just imagine how a displaced and depraved Awusa refugee in the boko haram terrorized areas would feel toward the next Igbo he sees after hearing the falsehood that General Ihejirika, who was tasked with protecting him from boko haram, was actually sponsoring boko haram. Bolaji's cunning utterance was reminiscent of Yoroba intellectuals' inciting statements over the January 15, 1966 coup -- they distorted the events and made gullible people to believe that Igbo did it to take over Nigeria. In the same manner, some dumb Awusa folks, like one Maigoro Jos, have bought into this stupidity about Ihejirika having sponsored boko haram because Igbo wants the economy of the North destroyed. What Northern economy could he be talking about that does not include the Igbo? The key to Bolaji's cunning incitement is that emotionally disturbed Northern elements will not reason that there is no Northern economy that does not include Igbos, just as they did not reason that in 1966 that Igbo was meritoriously dominating Nigeria in every facet of its existence except heading the federal government. How could Igbo execute a coup to dominate Nigeria when they had already accomplished that meritoriously and stood to gain better than other Nigerians in a stable Nigeria? Equally, how could Igbos want to destroy the economy of the North when that economy is intertwined with Igbos?

Do you see how thoughtless some Awusa, like Maigoro Jos, could be? Cunning Yoroba intellectuals, like Bolaji Aluko, feed incendiary lies to intellectually volatile Northerners like Maigoro Jos, who ultimately pass the fire to the depraved and deprived poor, hence genocide gets visited on an unassuming everyday Igbo in the North. You do not see these tricks because you deny being Igbo but those of us who will die being Igbo do not fail to always see them from afar.

My promise to the Bolaji Alukos and the Maigoro Joses is the same promise that Vladimir Putin has made to the West -- absorb Ukraine into NATO and the world will be open to vaporization by any means necessary. We cannot allow a Nigeria where jumping on the back of the Igbo is the rallying point of Nigerians. You have been defeated by boko haram, over 300 of your children have been kidnapped, and your cities in the North destroyed, with Emirs running away from their domains like little girls. Instead of patriotism to envelop and catapult you into fighting back, you seek out the Igbo to blame and to jump upon. That will only happen over my dead body!

It is a fact, confirmed by professor Sam Adepoju Aluko, that his son, Bolaji Ebeneza Aluko, was once placed on a terrorism watch list by the Abacha junta. He also confirmed that he told Abacha to remove Bolaji's name from that list without carrying out any investigation and his son's name was immediately removed from that list. If Bolaji believes that every allegation of terrorism should be investigated, then Nigeria must start with investigating him for being the John the Baptist of Abubakar Shekau. Anything else is nothing but the exhibition of thoughtlessness.

Comment:
The Cambridge Dictionary defines "investigation" as follows:

to examine a crimeproblemstatement, etc. carefullyespecially to discover the truth:

In the above excerpted portion of Bolaji's statement, he unambiguously and clearly dismissed the allegation that tries to drag the good name of General Ihejirika to Boko Haram as "preposterous" (Stupidity), but advised that, anyone alleged to have been involved - even at the height of idiocy or frivolity should be investigated (i.e to ascertain the truth).

Unless 'investigation' has lost its very meaning, but if remains what it is - to carefully examine - in this case, a statement to 'discover the truth', then I don't know how and where Bolaji has gone wrong. And I don't know how that statement of Bolaji has become in Nebukadineze Adiele's view "an example of Nigerians' hypocrisy and stupidity that gall me beyond toleration."

If 'investigation' remains what it is and I think it does, then, an examination of the 'preprosterous' allegation made against General Ihejirika would certainly put those that made it in total disrepute and even give the General the teeth to bite them hard for justice if he desires to pursue after them further.

Honestly I don't know where Bolaji went wrong on this occasion. Perhaps Nebukadineze Adiele and Oderaigbo may want to throw more light.

The above is an example of Nigerians' hypocrisy and stupidity that gall me beyond toleration. Look who's talking about security matters and investigation!

Before Bin Ladin showed up on the world stage, Bolaji Aluko, according to General Abacha's Intelligence operatives, was a terrorism kingpin. According to Abacha's military and civilian Intelligence network, before boko haram showed up in Nigeria, Bolaji Aluko had made and thrown bomb all over Nigeria as a means of achieving his political goal. According to professor Samuel Adepoju Aluko, Chairman of then Nigerian Economic Intelligence (the Prime Minister in Abacha's junta), he ordered General Abacha to remove his son's (Bolaji Aluko) name from the wanted list where it was placed for terrorism and it was so done without any investigation whatsoever.

In a healthy country, professor Bolaji Aluko would never have become a Vice Chancellor of a federal government owned university without the allegation of bomb making and throwing all around Nigeria, made against him, cleared by relevant investigative organs of the Nigerian state. For that same Bolaji to brazenly open his mouth and give credence to a wretched caterwauling Australian's senseless allegation against General Ihejirika, who was a sitting COAS, exposes the type of evil that inhabits inside of some Nigerians.

How could anybody who reasons properly not immediately dismiss any allegation that General Ihejirika could sponsor boko haram? What would he gain from doing so? How could he even do it when boko haramites are better armed than the army he was leading? How could he do such a thing without the Nigerian intelligence apparatuses finding out? Are most Nigerians really this stupid as to believe just about anything?

When General Buhari was accused of sponsoring boko haram, most of us not only dismissed it but we went to war against those who peddled the fallacy. It shocks me that most of those with whom we fought in clearing the General's name have thoughtlessly joined in rehashing and propagating this senseless allegation against Ihejirika. Boko haramites must be smiling because all these stupid allegations, believed by Nigerians with questionable reasoning abilities, give them the confidence that Nigerians are confused and not smart enough to understand the art of warfare. Thus, boko haram will prevail and I am, henceforth, rooting for them to succeed in dismembering Nigeria for their Caliphate -- I no longer want to share a country with thoughtless people. Anyone who believes that General Iherijika sponsored boko haram is thoughtless; anyone who, for political gains, holds onto every thoughtless allegations of boko haram sponsorship, against just about anybody, is an enemy of Nigeria who indirectly nourishes boko haram.

Bolaji Aluko, VC or no VC, remains a green snake in a green grass. It is unbelievable how Awusa, Yoroba, and the dumb minorities have bandied together (as in 1967) and agreed that an Igbo man sponsored boko haram. What is your stupid fixation on Igbo? Why don't you all put your bile and brain into defeating boko haram? Tufiakwa to you Nigerians!! That boko haram has defeated and shamed the Nigerian armed forces is proof enough that had Britain and other world powers not joined you in 1967, Biafra would have kicked Nigeria's ass mercilessly. Start the next nonsense with Igbo and we will kick your dumb asses this time -- no world power will be aiding you a second time.

Let the investigations start; first with Bolaji Aluko who was deemed so dangerous a terrorist that he was declared wanted by the Abacha administration.

This rush to judgment and defence of "home boys" and other local heros and benefactors of sundry hues has been the bane of progress in Nigeria, where punches are pulled very primordially, and politics is made out of every matter, no matter how serious, including corruption, and Ebola of all things.  It is part of what got us into this situation where "a hitherto rag-tag group of brain-washed and indoctrinated group of people metamorphosed into a well nit and better armed terror group; effortlessly curbing their own territory and confidently taking the war into the door steps of Nigerian army instead of the other way round!!!"

Please Allow General Ihejirika To Defend Himself!!

Category: ARTICLES

Published on Wednesday, 10 September 2014 06:36
By Kabiru Tsakuwa

Since the damning revelation by reverend Stephen Davis about alleged Boko-Haram Sponsors hit the airwaves, frantic and ceaseless efforts in defense of the accused has become the new pastime in the vain effort to preempt justice.

Of particular note, were the cacophony of spiritless defenses put forward questioning the possible culpability of the former Army Chief, Lt. General Ihejirika in the ongoing unfortunate BH quagmire?

First to exonerate Ihejirika was Mrs. Marilyn Orgah on behalf of the DSS stating that the Former Army general was wrongly accused by the government appointed mediator, Reverend Stephen Davis; and that the other co-accused, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif has a case to answer.

In absolving General Ihejirika however, the spokesperson of the DSS has forgotten that since the unfortunate Apo 8 saga; many Nigerians are finding it hard to believe the DSS again. They have since then become skeptical about any statement issued based on the unfortunate experience of the recent past. And on that account, the DSS appears more believable when it says nothing!

No less amusing was the wishy-washy defenses by motley of Igbo cultural groups who cannot reconcile the fact that an Igbo Christian can be alleged to be an active sponsor of a so-called Islamic Terror Group? In this, they deliberately chose not to recall the many Christians terrorist arrested trying to bomb churches and mosques in places like Miya Barkatai in Bauchi state and Bayelsa state  among several other places?

In a press statement by the United Progressive Party (UPP) which appears in the Sunday trust of 7th/09/2014, Chief Ogbuchi Dike, the chief press secretary of the party wonders how General Ihejirika who flushed out Boko-Haram out of the north east into Sambisa forest can be mention by Reverend Stephen Davis as one of the sponsor of the terrorist outfit; and at the same time be their sponsor?

This analogy fell flat in the face of similar one by the other co-accused-Senator Ali Modu Sharrif. In a widely publicized press release, the senator debunked the allegations and the likelihood of being a sponsor of BH having been directly affected by their atrocities? The same terror group he said, killed two of his cousins, his brother and his gubernatorial candidate in the last 2011 election? And so, according to him, how could a victim be a sponsor at the same time?

Not yet done, and without any shred of evidence, Mr. Fani Kayode corroborated the same inference made by other groups that LT General Ihejirika having fought the Boko-Haram elements to a stand still cannot come back and sponsor the same for whatever reason. And that being a Christian, the former COAS has nothing to do with Boko-Haram. Nothing can be more preposterous and prejudicial to the course of justice. Mr. fani Kayode need to be reminded that the whole issue of BH has nothing to do with the Islamic religion as has been mischievously portray by the enemies of the sacred religion which  succeeded in turning its pure doctrines upside down in the dirty politics of today!

Perhaps, Mr. Kayode need ALSO be reminded about the political statement by the late former National Security Adviser General Owoye Azazi few months before his death to the effect that: ‘Power struggles within the PDP was responsible for Boko-Haram’? What can be more political than this?

I’m glad, DHQ are yet to make any categorical statement on this contentious matter. And i think it’s within their  enlighten best interest not to delve into it, because since the abduction of the Chibok girls some 140 days ago; especially with claims and counter claims that follows which however turn out to be  white lies; its credibility rating in the eye of Nigerian citizens has nosedived into a record low.

It’s therefore all the more curious ongoing frenzy by some groups, organizations and individuals’  who are falling upon themselves in the vain effort to clear General Ihejirika of involvement in the unfortunate blood lettings without first allowing the law to take its rightful course? These makethe whole issue all the more suspicious!

The court of competent jurisdiction remain the only impartial arbiter and should be allow to clear the air via thorough investigations of the two accused persons; given that  it still remain within their fundamental right to freedom from any harm until proven guilty!

The way to go, therefore, in resolving the damning allegation by Reverend Stephen Davis still remains the court. Let the accused go to court to defend themselves and spare us the present laughable effort by busy bodies. This way, Nigerians can have real opportunity to know the truth with regards to the many conspiracy theories woven around atrocities committed by BH like the mysterious killings of civil war veteran late General Mamman Shuwa, and withdrawal of Army check-points moments before Boko Haram struck in places like Buni-yadi, which led to the unfortunate massacre of 65 innocent schools children in cold blood among several other questionable happenings.

This can be an opportunity to know more about what lead to the reported Mutiny; protest by troops’ wives; lack of adequate and serviceable hardware, and low morale among troops and the now celebrated ‘tactical maneuvers’ of our hitherto gallant and distinguished officers and men of the Nigerian Army into Cameroon in hot pursuit of safety net away from superior fire power of the now well armed, better motivated and well trained BH terrorist!

The court can also avail Nigerians the wherewithal to know how a hitherto rag-tag group of brain-washed and indoctrinated group of people metamorphosed into a well nit and better armed terror group; effortlessly curbing their own territory and confidently taking the war into the door steps of Nigerian army instead of the other way round!!!!

Thanks for your honest take on the matter.....provided the rush to defence by some of our Igbo compatriots can be assigned to preventative action based on understandable paranoia from historical mob action over a dubious allegation, then one can take that defence as not  being necessarily based on truth of the matter,  and then either accept or reject the defence as being possibly unfounded.

As to the waffle about Ihejirika which makes him ostensibly to end up at the ICC for opposing reasons, the more reason why the man must be allowed to defend himself COMPREHENSIVELY.

Finally, some of all of this about Ihejirika may be partisan politics, as he seems to have quickly descended into Abia gubernatorial elections so soon after his military stint.....if The Sun and Pointblanknews are to be believed....

There is no doubt that General Ihejirika is an interesting fellow, and a politically-exposed person-of-interest......

And there you have it.

Abia guber: Ihejirika joins the fray

 1
BY WILLY EYA ON JUNE 12, 2014 ·COVER

Political activities ahead of next year’s governorship race in Abia State are becoming pulsating with indications that former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika (retd) has joined the fray.

Daily Sun gathered that the ambition of the retired army boss was made known in faraway Maryland, USA on June 1 at the residence of Dr. Okey Nwadiuko, a native of Isikwuato.

A source said that at the meeting in Maryland, Ihejirika told the gathering of Isikwuato people and their in-laws that he would contest the 2015 governorship election in Abia State.

At the meeting, it was gathered, an Ngwa man married to an Isikwuato woman asked about the Abia Charter of Equity, which reportedly zoned the governorship in the state outside Isikwuato, but the former army boss just waved it aside.

Ihejirika, Daily Sun learnt authoritatively, had the support of Abia State governor, T. A. Orji’s son, Chinedu and the state’s First lady, Mrs Mercy Orji.

A source said the duo had agreed to bankroll the project to ensure that Ihejirika’s ambition sailed through.

The former army chief is already making efforts to build bridges of friendship among stakeholders in the state.

Governor Orji is from Abia Central, while his predecessor, Dr. Orji Kalu, is from Abia North Senatorial zone.

Ihejirika is the immediate-past Chief of Army Staff. He was recently hosted to a civic reception in Isikwuato, after his retirement, during which some people openly urged him to join the contest for the state’s number one position.

Indications have emerged that immediate past Chief of Army Staff, General Azubuike Onyeabor Ihejirika may have joined the race to succeed governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji .

Orji’s is serving out his second term, and is expected to leave office on May 29, 2015.

Colourful posters of the retired army general have flooded major streets of Umuahia, the state capital.

The colourful posters urged Ihejirika “to come and do more for the people of Abia State.” It bore the flag and logo of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting that the retired army general might pitch his tent with PDP..

Born February 13, 1956, Ihejirika is from Ovim, Isikwuato council in Abia North senatorial zone.

Friends and political associates of the retired general told Pointblanknews.com that the Ihejirika was banking on zoning, a huge war chest, and his contacts in the Presidency to win the governorship contest.

Chief Uzor Kalu who was governor between 1999 and 2007 is from Igbere, Abia South senatorial zone. Orji, the incumbent governor is from Umuahia, the heart of Abia central senatorial zone.

The retired army chief is said to be close to Governor Orji, and might be banking on the governor’s support to pick the PDP ticket and win next year’s governorship duel.

Ihejirika is also said to be buoyed by the political exploits of some retired service and military chiefs.

His associates mention Olusegun Obasanjo, Ihejirika’s former boss in the army engineering corps, who retired as a four-star general and was later elected president for two terms.

They cite Murtala Nyako, a former Chief of Naval Staff, who is the current governor of Adamawa State, and Late Mohammed Lawal, a retired Commodore who was elected governor of Kwara State.

Ihejirika’s associates are also quick to point to Dieprieye Alamieyiesigha, a former Navy officer who emerged governor of Bayelsa State, and Olabode George, a retired Navy chief, and influential chieftain of PDP, particularly in the south-west.

In 2012, Ihejirika’s former colleague in the army, Gen Charles Airhiavbere won the PDP ticket in Edo State and contested the governorship election but lost to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Appointed Chief of Army Staff in September 2010, Ihejirika became the second Igbo to head the Nigerian Army nearly 50 years after his Abia kinsman, late General Aguiyi Ironsi held a similar office.

Holder of the third highest national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR), Ihejirika is the second Igbo alive to be decorated a three-star Army General after Lt. Gen. Chikadibia Obiakor.

Ihejirika became the most tested army chief since the Nigeria civil war no thanks to the campaign of violence by Boko Haram insurgents.

Also under the retired army chief, Nigeria’s military spending tripled crossing the N1 trillion mark in 2012, making Ihejirika one of the richest army chiefs in Nigerian history.

In January 2014, however, President Goodluck Jonathan effected sweeping changes in the military, sacking Ihejirika and other service chiefs.
