Position: Windows & Vmware System Engineer

Location: Bohemia, NY

Duration: Long Term

 

Experience:  8+ years of systems integration and/or server administration experience.

 

Job Purpose:

Integrate software & related technology for client’s airport based passenger handling systems including advanced biometrics processing, passenger check-in/boarding, passenger flow monitoring, and airport management systems. The position requires the integration of various technologies including: self-boarding gates, baggage drop units, airline peripherals (e.g. boarding pass printers, boarding gate readers), biometric devices (e.g. face recognition, fingerprint reader, iris scanner), custom and device specific software (e.g. biometric matching, passenger validation). The purpose of the position is to ensure proper operation of all components of the solution and creation of hand-over packages for downstream teams such as QA test, training, delivery, operations, and solution design. The position requires travel as needed to provide support to downstream teams and customers.

 

Skills Summary: Server virtualization, server & workstation class operating systems, web services, application middleware, customized software, network LAN/WAN devices, security related HW/SW, systems management SW, peripheral devices, application network analysis, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Standardize System Level Architecture
• Automate System Implementation, leveraging processes and tools proven successful in other airport products
• Standardize/Define security architecture regarding patch management, anti-virus, server hardening, Active Directory, etc...
• Engineer Disaster Recovery, Back/Restore and other fault tolerance related product elements
• Integrate Product with clients Cloud Architecture
• Provide 3rd level support
• Evaluate 3rd Party Software and Integrating as needed
• Provide feedback to management regarding the requirements for the software (and related technology) being considered for integration
• Evaluate and recommend add-on utilities for system administration and troubleshooting.
• Write documentation for each integration.  (Documentation includes details such as: Installation, customization, backup, and troubleshooting information)
• Assist other downstream teams as needed
• Ability to travel worldwide on a regular basis.

 

Education and training:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent technical discipline related to job description.

 

Detailed Skills

MCSE and a minimum of two years in Active Directory is a plus.

 

Knowledge Experience and Skills:

·         Windows 2012/2016/2019 Server (MCSA/MCSE)

·         Active Directory

·         Knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V, Hyper-converged infrastructure, etc.)

·         Knowledge of Cloud Environments (e.g. MS Azure, AWS)

·         Management of Queuing Services (e.g. MSMQ, IBM MQ, …)

·         Microsoft Clustering

·         Good Knowledge of Redundancy/Backup technologies: RAID, Tape Backup, NAS etc

·         Database Administration (e.g. MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB)

·         MS SQL Always-On

·         SAN Management

·         Networking Operation Systems (e.g. IOS)

·         High Level Knowledge of Web Server and Development technologies desirable (e.g. IIS, Apache, Tomcat)

·         Knowledge of legacy Air transportation industry communications protocols is a plus.

·         Conceptual Understanding of Power Shell, Java, VBA and windows scripting desired.

·         Previous experience with HP servers and/or IBM Blade Servers is a plus.

·         Strong communications and documentation skills
