Database Administrator
60% oracle and 40% SQL
Position Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for database design, implementation, and maintenance. This job requires qualified individuals who can identify system problems, research and analyze issues, and then develop effective solutions. The DBA’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
Position Detail
Oracle/MS SQL DBA with relevant financial industry experience.
Technical Requirements
The successful candidate requires the following technical competencies:
· Oracle/MS SQL DBA with 8 + years of experience in Oracle 9.x/10.x/11g, data modeling (ERWIN, Embarcadero ER/Studio).
· Databases running on a Windows platform or Linux, Win to Linux migration experience a plus.
· Extensive Experience with Oracle/MS SQL backup and recovery procedures.
· Extensive experience with Oracle Stored Procedures, triggers, materialized views, database partitions, distributed databases (Dataguard), SQL*Loader, Oracle Tools.
· Experience with Oracle 10 to 11g migration a plus
· Strong understanding and experience with Perl scripting
· Unix shell programming experience a plus
· Ability to work independently, as a member of a team, and under supervision
Responsibilities
This role will be responsible for delivering:
· Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products
· Evaluate Database features and Database related products
· Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures
· Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
· Plan growth and changes (capacity planning)
· Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
· Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
· Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
· Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
· Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
· Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
· Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
· Establish, recommend and maintain Oracle database standards including; database implementation, replication, monitoring, backup and security.
· Work closely with various departments within the organization to establish and implement procedures.
· Provide user training where appropriate.
· Adopt and maintain Project Life Cycle according to PO guidelines.
· Ensure proper documentation.
· Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
· Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
· Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
· Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.
· Create, or support creation of, required reports in response to business user needs.
· Perform database transaction and security audits.
· Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
· Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.
· Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
· Adhere to GTO Corporate Information Security Policies (CISP).
· Ensure compliance with relevant sections of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 &ISO 17799 controls wherever necessary.
· Some travel may be required, possibly overseas.
· on-call availability is required.
Other responsibilities as requested.
Overtime hours; including weekends and evenings, may be required to meet project deadlines.
Required Skills/ Attributes:
The successful candidate will possess the following skills/attributes:
· Bachelor of Science or 5 or more years of professional work experience in Commercial and Investment Banking or other related Financial Services.
· Knowledge of Project Life Cycle and Program Office methodologies. Work with information technology, financial, and decision support systems.
· A good understanding of the Oracle database, related utilities and tools
· A good understanding of the underlying operating system
· Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
· Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
· Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
· Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques.
· Project management experience.
· Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
· Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
· Oracle /MS SQL DBA Certification a plus
