Position: MYSQL DBA

Location: Seattle, WA

Duration: 12+ months

Position Overview

Responsible for designing, tuning, maintaining, and supporting secure data systems for highly available, high-volume internet applications, as well as planning, designing, and implementing new software to assist in automating these tasks. Maintains new and existing data platforms and tools, including writing code, testing, debugging and troubleshooting. Documents development activity including how-to and best practices. Assists other teams as a subject matter expert in our data platforms.

Skills Required

  • Strong operational and administrative understanding of data platforms
  • Strong understanding of data security (e.g. secure authentication, encryption at-rest and in-flight)
  • Strong understanding of highly-available data system architecture and implementation
  • Understanding of replication, sharding and performance optimization in data systems
  • Ability to build tooling using scripting or programming language of choice
  • Knowledge and use of source control (Git) and code review practices

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Comfortable working in a Linux shell
  • Understanding of unit and functional testing
  • Understanding and use of containers and container schedulers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, tune, maintain and support secure, highly-available data systems for highly available, high-volume Internet applications
  • Manage an environment primarily using MySQL, as well as some ElasticSearch and other OSS DBs
  • Database performance analysis, capacity sizing, and optimization
  • You own your systems and code. Full participant in On Call rotations; Kanban, Status meetings; Iterative planning, Demos.
  • Develop, test, and deploy reliable, efficient, secure, and cost-effective automation solutions leveraging modern frameworks across multiple environments and using modern test approaches
  • Drive automation at all levels of the development and operation lifecycle
  • Produce documentation of overall automation design, operation and test coverage

Education Level

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Equivalent Field of Study or experience

Generally requires 5-8 years related experience
