Role :- Web Sphere Admin

OPT/H4 EAD also fine.

Location: St. Louis, MO

Duration: 2 years

Interview process: Skype

 Keys:

** WebSphere, JBoss and Apache

** SSL Certificates

  POSITION DETAILS:

Team Info:

•             Team must grow in order to provide excellent support due to the growth of the company. 

•             Part of global team which has people in Dublin, Ireland, Pune, India, and Sidney and Brisbane, Australia.

•             They have a separate team that builds out new infra. This team’s an important part of the handoff process. 

•             They’re slowly moving WebSphere out of their environment and Apache is becoming much more prevalent. 

Project Info:

•             Troubleshooting middleware: JBoss, WebSphere, and Apache. Traditional operational support.

•             8-5 shift work.

•             This is not a build function, but a BAU support role. Won’t build much other than F5 configs.

•             On-call rotation will begin after 4-5 months. About every 8th weekend, take a Saturday only-pretty minimal. Infra/automated alert or participating in incident resolution session.

•             Interact with development teams and the internal application support tier constantly.

•             K.C. is mostly phone and email communication. O’Fallon, MO has a lot of F2F meetings.

•             Selling Points: MC is a top 100 company with $150 Billion market cap. Class leading security infrastructure. Very technical environment. They’re a technology company, not a financial company. Driving the bleeding edge with their vendors. 

•             Possibility of extension beyond 12 months? Yes, likely.

•             Possibility of conversion to FTE? Yes.

•             Interview Process: Phone interview with James and check personality fit and a few technical questions. Then 2nd phone or F2F interview. He’ll have a couple tech leads ask a lot of technical questions. Will do Skype for non-local. He’ll go to K.C. office for in-person interviews potentially.                                       

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

MUST HAVES:

•             Operational experience and experience managing middleware. Must have experience with 1 or more of the following: JBoss, WebSphere, or Apache.

•             Excellent communication skills are critical-both written and verbal. On calls with internal customers and Skype a lot. This is really important. 

•             Security is important-need SSL and user propagation, both are key. Important-have to understand how SSL and SSL termination work. Have to have ability to attain/apply the knowledge without practical experience.

•             JBoss/F5 is more valued than WebSphere.

NICE TO HAVES:

•             F5’s is nice to have, but he can teach a good candidate if they get web technology and how web infrastructure works.

•             Duration? 12 months- chance of ext.

•             Describe your team.

•             What is the name of your group and what is your team’s main responsibility? Internet Operations- managing all middleware and infrastructure at Mastercard

•             How does that fit into the overall Mastercard organization? 2nd tier support for all middleware properties- customers use services they provide to communicate

•             What is the culture of your team? High performing team, global, work closely together with, communication is key via skype and phone, they provide emergency support so the team is 24/7

•             Describe the position.

•             What will a typical work day look like for this contractor? Stand up meeting in the morning, they have do the tickets assigned to them, work with team members, updating notes.

•             What will the work schedule be? Monday- Friday 7-4, 8-5, 9-6 have to be comfortable being on call 3 days every so many weeks!

•             Will there be any travel involved? NO

•             What are your top 3 required technical skills? Security with middleware containers, troubleshooting skills are needed, expertise in one of the middleware areas, JBoss, F5 load balancers

•             What soft skills would you like to see in a candidate? Communication

•             Is there an opportunity for conversion or extension? Yes

•             Is there anything that would automatically disqualify a candidate? No

•             What will be your interview process? (phone, skype, on site) Phone screen first, Skype or in person- for St. Louis would prefer in person

•             Do you have an upcoming OOO’s which could potentially halt the sourcing process? No
