Role: Product Owner

Location: Iowa City, IA

Duration: 4-6 months

The Product Owner is responsible for accomplishing product implementation objectives by representing Product Management Teams and SME’s in Service definitions and providing feature definition and prioritization at the Service and Scrum level. The Product Owner is responsible for accepting the product delivered by software agile initiatives at the Sprint/Scrum level.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities 

Typical work-related activities include:

Development-focused execution of product strategy through implementation and adoption of technology and operational process

Responsible for packaging product capabilities, features, and requirements for consumption by Service Owners 

Ensure alignment of the product roadmap to multiple service roadmaps

Act as a point of contact across all service areas for product related decisions

Identify, define, and prioritize cross-functional product features, ensuring functional integrity across service areas

Work with the Service Owners and stakeholders in the bundling of product backlog items into implementable initiatives at the Scrum and Sprint backlog level

Create and maintain Product backlog (from product roadmaps) and prioritize items, while grooming backlogs as needed, based on business value and/or ROI

Support stakeholders in the prioritization of work through Scrum work-streams or multiple Scrums

Actively participate in Scrum and Sprint planning by providing the Service and Scrum teams with understanding of specific feature contents and product insights to make informed decisions together

Participate in the daily Scrums, Sprint planning meetings, and Sprint reviews and retrospectives

Test/Accept/approve product and make decision to move into production, in coordination with Service Owners and other business and Product Owners

Communicate status and development status internally

Produce communications and documentation that is clear and organized

Collaborate with product managers, product owners, business analysts, and cross functional teams

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Education:  

Bachelor’s degree in a related area required, preferably in business

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired

 

Experience:

Minimum of three years of product management or related experience required

Experience with Lean and Agile principles and tools preferred

Experience with Agile methodologies as a “Product Owner” preferred

Build collaborative relationships by incorporating expectations of customers in delivering required results, and share information about how trends may influence products, services, and customer needs
