Hello all --

On May 25, 2022, President Biden ordered the Justice Department to establish a "National Law Enforcement Accountability Database" within 240 days of the date of the order that would be "a centralized repository of official records documenting instances of law enforcement officer misconduct." https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2022/05/25/executive-order-on-advancing-effective-accountable-policing-and-criminal-justice-practices-to-enhance-public-trust-and-public-safety/

It has now been 250 days, & this database has not been launched, with no public notice about its status or the cause for the delay. As this is a commitment in the 5th US National Action Plan for Open Government, this is problematic on several levels. https://open.usa.gov/national-action-plan/5/

I have asked the Justice Department to advise when the database will go live and the timeline for building out records in it.

In the interim, someone from the White House Open Government Working Group should advise US civil society on how this first broken commitment will be publicly acknowledged and addressed in a public message and lay out a schedule for public meetings that show the administration's work on open government.

Hello all -
It's been three weeks since I wrote about the Justice Department's failure to launch a national law enforcement database by January 20, 2023 that President Biden ordered:
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2022/05/31/2022-11810/advancing-effective-accountable-policing-and-criminal-justice-practices-to-enhance-public-trust-and but it is still not online, nor has any US government official responded to a question about its status in this forum, which is designated for discussion of US federal open government initiatives.

What is the status of the commitment the US government made to stand up a database of police misconduct?

The Justice Department is not responding to inquiries, much less commenting on the status when asked: https://www.themarshallproject.org/2023/02/04/biden-promised-a-police-misconduct-database-he-s-yet-to-deliver

When will the US government stand up a public dashboard of the status of US commitments to Open Government Partnership, past and present, at WhiteHouse.gov/open ?

Delivering on this commitment is a critical step towards rebuilding trust in the US government's work on open government through delivery, much less recovering a position of global leadership. More silence here will squander the investment that this White House made in repairing the relationship with US civil society last fall and winter. In December 2021, President Biden said to "stand with those in civil society and courageous citizens around the world who are demanding transparency of their governments" and "let us all work together to hold governments accountable for the people they serve." https://e-pluribusunum.org/2021/12/16/what-was-missing-from-president-bidens-remarks-on-the-open-government-summit/

Please advise when the American people can expect to see the President's order carried out.
