Hello all:

I have seen no press release or social media amplification by the White House, GSA, or other officials since the forms went live. If anyone can point me to public outreach, please do so.

The co-creation plan published in May stated that June would be used for “Shaping” & July would be for “drafting,” but there has been no update on either since the forms opened up:

  • June 2022 - Shaping: The shaping phase will help organize the initial input into more logical structures with clear problem statements, proposed solutions, and overarching themes.
  • July 2022 - Drafting: The drafting phase will involve thematic workshops that bring together stakeholders focused on specific topic areas to begin drafting commitments.
If the deadlines and timelines have shifted yet again, for whatever reason, then the White House should be open, transparent, & collaborative regarding the reasons why, and set expectations for US civil society accordingly.

If there were going to be drafting workshops scheduled in July, after a month of shaping, will we see all of the inputs that went in since May and June prior to those events? If outreach continued through June, should we expect shaping in July? How and when will civil society participate in that part of the co-creation process?

The 4th National Action Plan committed the US government to expanding participation in developing future plans:
“ Citizen engagement and public participation are among the most important elements of the NAP co- creation process. During the development of this NAP4, everyday Americans provided some of the most thoughtful and engaging ideas. As we begin to contemplate a fifth national action plan, we will prioritize including a more geographically diverse and diffuse representation of citizen stakeholders in the development of the document. We will aim to conduct a series of consultation sessions, in-person meetings, and livestreamed discussions around the country to generate ideas, encourage public input, and engage in conversations with the most important stakeholder – the American public.”

To date, that commitment has not been met. In fact, outreach and public engagement has been lower than in the past 4 cycles.

Please advise how & when that will change, along with adjusted timelines for the co-creation process.

Best,
Alex

Hello Open Government Community,,

For those who weren't able to join the meeting in May, you can find a
recording of the meeting on the meeting page at
https://open.usa.gov/meeting/may-2022-public-meeting/

As announced at the meeting, we are looking for input on ideas, research,
and communities
<https://open.usa.gov/national-action-plan/co-creation/outreach/> to
support the co-creation process for developing the 5th National Action Plan
for Open Government. *These forms will be available until June 27th.* We
will not be responding to everything we receive during this initial phase
of the co-creation process, but will publish a report summarizing the input
we receive.

Our next public meeting is likely to be the week of June 20th, but we are
still finalizing the date.

Best,
Phil
