Hi all! Apologies for any cross-posting. As Fedscoop reported, the IRS is now defending its use of ID.me to require requestors to authenticate themselves with biometric data in order to make FOIA requests or to access disclosed records on their FOIA websites now.
As I told the reporter, that's overreach at best. There's nothing in FOIA that requires agencies to do this! There's good reasons NOT to require people to do this in order to submit a FOIA or access records.
