Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controls System Engineer with strong expertise in PLC programming and industrial control systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing, programming, debugging, and supporting PLC-based control systems, with Rockwell Automation platforms as the primary requirement.
Experience with Siemens PLC platforms is highly desirable. The candidate will work closely with engineering teams, equipment suppliers, and plant operations to develop, implement, troubleshoot, and improve automation and control systems.
Must-Have Technical Skills1. Rockwell PLC Programming – Primary Requirement
- Strong hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix systems.
- Proficient in PLC programming using Rockwell Studio 5000.
- Experience with:
- Ladder Logic
- Motion Control
- Safety Programming
- PLC system design and development
- Experience with FactoryTalk View Studio for HMI programming.
- Knowledge of PLC hardware configuration and communication protocols.
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging PLC-based control systems.
2. Siemens PLC Programming – Secondary Requirement
- Hands-on experience with Siemens PLC platforms is preferred.
- Experience with Siemens Step 7 or other Siemens PLC programming environments is a plus.
Preferred Technical Skills
- Function Block programming.
- Structured Text programming.
- Machine safety systems and safety controls.
- Robotic systems, preferably:
- Vision systems, preferably:
- FANUC PMC ladder programming for CNC equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial automation networks and communication protocols.
Key ResponsibilitiesControl System Development
- Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for industrial automation equipment.
- Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and control system programs based on equipment and process requirements.
- Develop and execute bench tests to validate control system functionality.
- Ensure sensors, actuators, and related control components operate according to specifications.
- Develop and maintain machine safety systems and control logic.
Installation & Technical Support
- Support the installation, commissioning, and integration of PLC-based hardware and software.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex PLC, HMI, controls, and equipment-related issues.
- Analyze and implement software and equipment changes to improve system performance and reliability.
- Provide ongoing technical support for production and plant operations.
Plant Transformation & Engineering Support
- Support control activities associated with RMEP, CEP, and CMEP plant transformation initiatives within Assembly and/or Machining areas.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, process, and other engineering disciplines to develop and improve plant processes and equipment.
- Support PLC, HMI, and MES programming changes as required.
- Provide production support and respond to controls-related issues as needed.
Equipment Supplier & Standards Support
- Work closely with equipment suppliers and integrators to ensure automation solutions meet plant requirements.
- Drive and support programming, networking, system architecture, hardware, and documentation standards for new equipment.
- Review and validate control system designs, programming, network architecture, and technical documentation.
Team Collaboration & Mentoring
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams to identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements.
- Coach and mentor less-experienced Controls Engineers.
- Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 3–6 years of professional experience in Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on PLC programming experience.
- Strong experience with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix platforms.
- Proficiency in Studio 5000.
- Experience with FactoryTalk View Studio.
- Strong understanding of PLC hardware, communication protocols, sensors, actuators, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting, debugging, commissioning, and production support.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and equipment suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of Controls/PLC engineering experience.
- Siemens Step 7 or other Siemens PLC experience.
- Experience with FANUC or Nachi robotic systems.
- Experience with Cognex, Keyence, or Coherix vision systems.
- FANUC PMC ladder programming experience.
- Experience with Function Block and Structured Text programming.
- Experience with MES systems and manufacturing plant automation.
- Experience working in Assembly and/or Machining manufacturing environments.
