Hi folks,
I hope that this note finds you doing okay wherever you are.
We started up the US Government API Community of Practice listserve in 2013 to make sure that there was a forum for people thinking about and working on APIs across the federal government. It definitely served that purpose. The Google Group is currently showing 399 message threads from over the years and I know that I found the community very helpful as a sounding board and source of inspiration.
But I'm a fan of keeping an eye on things and winding them down at the appropriate time. Especially starting in 2020, folks' communication preferences and needs started to shift and that's not a bad thing. Govies and agencies still need to be thinking about and talking about how APIs should fit into their strategies and tactics more than they do, but that's always been the case and I think it's safe to say now that this community of practice helped with that for a long time but now is ready for pasture.
I'm going to keep the group visible so that the archives stay available, but as of this week, I plan to turn off further messaging and cease accepting new join requests.
There's a lot still to do and I look forward to working with you all to try to keep doing it. :)
Ever forward,
Gray B.
