I would like to upgrade my Mac OS from Catalina to Big Sur however I'm wondering if my Hikvision IVMS-4200 software will work? I've got Hikvision IVMS-4200 version 2.0.0.10 Build 20190625. It's been running on Mac OS Catalina v10.15.7 without issues. The Hikvision web site does not have any information on the compatibility of Big Sur with IVMS-4200. IVMS-4200 software is what I connect to my NVR to view POE cameras.
One surefire way to ensure it will continue working is to not upgrade to Big Sur until you know beyond a reasonable doubt that the vendor supports it on Big Sur. Otherwise, a fellow user would have braved a Darwin award by upgrading to Big Sur and discovering the Hikvision IVMS-4200 compatibility, one way or another.
My computer is Windows 10 running iVMS-4200 V2.6.2.7. It is connected directly into a switch. The camera is also connected directly into the switch. There is nothing else connected (no router/etc.). The camera has an internal 100GB SD card.
On a whim, I installed the free IVMS-4200 and direct streamed the 16 Advidia cameras, bypassing the VI server. To my pleasant surprise/shock, the IVMS displayed the cameras at a much more fluid frame rate, and the processor utilization was a whopping 4%. We are using VI for the servers and the operators that need to review/archive video, but for all the live displays we are going with the IVMS-4200.
You might need to forward some ports in your router when you use a Hikvision iVMS-4200 DVR. A port forward allows incoming connection requests from the internet to go straight to a Hikvision iVMS-4200 DVR.
