The shelter just confirmed he is still there and just the absolute sweetest boy.  Please, can anyone help him!  He has $500.00 in sponsor.

Subject: Gwinnett Animal Welfare, Lawrenceville GA: Rescue Plea for Sweet, Blind Senior Male Pittie "Oz" (109703)
To:

Dear Rescue Partners,

I hope this message finds you well. We’re reaching out today with a heartfelt plea for a very special dog in our care.

Meet Oz, a gentle 10-year-old, 72 lb neutered male Pit Bull who was found standing alone in the middle of Latimore Avenue in Buford, GA on May 6th. Sadly, he had no collar or microchip, and no owner has come forward.

image004.jpgOz is suspected to be completely blind. When approached in his kennel, he did not visually respond and only reacted once he heard a sound. He has bilaterally fixed, dilated pupils, no menace response, and no pupillary light reflexes (PLRs), suggesting total vision loss. While a dazzle reflex could not be confirmed due to equipment limitations, clinical signs point strongly toward full blindness—potentially caused by glaucoma, trauma, or a congenital issue.

Despite his vision impairment, Oz is incredibly sweet and non-reactive. He has shown signs of partial hearing loss, and due to his sensory limitations, he appears uncertain in unfamiliar environments. He keeps his tail down and moves cautiously, but when he hears a friendly voice or a click, he perks up and wags his tail. He has shown no signs of aggression and seems to be house-trained as well.

Oz is:

  • Neutered
  • Up to date on vaccinations
  • Microchipped
  • Heartworm negative

Oz clearly once had someone who cared for him—he’s in good body condition, and his demeanor suggests he was a loved companion. Now, he needs a patient and loving rescue to help him adjust to life without sight and provide the safety and stability he deserves in his golden years.

If you’re able to help Oz, please contact us as soon as possible. If you are unable to pull him directly, please consider sharing his plea with other rescues who may be able to assist.
