All,
I've exchanged emails with Rachel and in addition to having to care for her fiance (just home from hospital), she's also having to stave off his mom who is insisting that Rusan be taken to the pound. Rachel has told her she's working with a rescue group (us :-p) but we've no where to put this dog.
We welcome other rescues or offers of foster for little Rusan who's been unfairly displaced by his dad's unfortunate and unexpected health issues.
Contact me at ja...@doggieharmony.org with possible options, or rachel...@gmail.com if your question is specific to Rusan, but do be respectful of her time as she's got a lot on her plate.
Meanwhile, we've got him courtesy posted on our sites with fingers-crossed.
Jamie

Rachel, I'm so sorry for your predicament. This made it to me through several forwards, so I would like to first confirm that I should forward it out to my rescue distribution and if so, would you mind just quickly filling in as many details as possible:
1. Contact/Your Name: [Rachel Marie Hawkins]
2. Contact/Your Preferred E-mail: (Ok to list on Petfinder?) rachel...@gmail.com ok to list
4. Dog's Name: Rusan
5. Breed(s): [Rachel Marie Hawkins] large Chihuahua mix / hound
6. Mixed or Purebreed? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Mixed
7. Age: [Rachel Marie Hawkins] 4 years old
8. Approx Weight? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] 16 lbs
9. Spay/Neutered? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Neutered
10. Last Vaccinations: [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Rabies last year
11. On Monthly Heartworm/Flea Preventative? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Flea preventative
12. Likes Other Dogs? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Yes, just takes time to warm up.
13. Likes Cats? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Loves cats.
14. Likes Kids? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Has not been around a lot of kids, but has not had any problems when he has been around them.
15. Housetrained? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Yes.
16. Cratetrained? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Yes.
17. Energy-Level (High/Med/Low)? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] Medium inside apartment, but when he gets free to run he loves to run!
18. What makes this dog especially loveable? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] He is so unique and one of a kind. He has the deepest eyes that will melt your heart. People think he is a puppy of a large breed because he acts sweet and goofy and sometimes awkward like a puppy.
19. What makes this dog challenging? Has dog shown any aggression or behavioral issues? (Note: These questions are not necessarily for Petfinder, but moreso to help us match him to person(s) looking to adopt. We believe there's a right home for every dog; in spite of possible challenges.) [Rachel Marie Hawkins] He takes awhile to warm up sometimes. He needs lots of love and attention. He low growls and does a slight bark toward nosey dogs, but we have never seen him bite at another dog. He also does this when he gets in trouble, he growls and barks but no snapping or biting.
20. Do you have an application for screening adopters? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] No
21. Do you plan to do a home visit? [Rachel Marie Hawkins] I would like to.
22. Are you going to charge an adoption fee?[Rachel Marie Hawkins] No, as long as he goes to a great home that is the most rewarding thing for us.
Also, if you could find a friend to even just temporarily foster him, we can post him on our adoption websites and help him find a good home.

Subject: Rusan Needs a New Home by Saturday or he Goes to Shelter :(Rusan needs a new home L
I need to find the perfect home for my fiancé’s dog. He is 25 years old (fiancé not the dog J) and he unfortunately had to have emergency brain surgery. He is going to need month’s of rehab and rest. He gets migraines at the drop of a hat now because of the healing, and having Rusan in our small apartment is just not feasible anymore. He is a one of a kind dog, he is over 4 years old and people stop and ask what time of puppy he is. He is house broken, however he needs to be in a home where he can run and run and run. He is neutered and I believe up on his shots. He is very trainable, we have taught him to sit, wait, and even to play dead when you fake shoot him with your finger and yell “BANG!” Gerry’s mother is coming to get the dog by this Saturday to take him to a shelter if we cannot find him a home by then, because it will be too much for him to handle at the apartment. I begged her to let me find a home first, but I only have till Saturday. It is very hard for Gerry to do this, but it is the best for him and for Rusan if he can find a home that will let him run around freely and get a lot of love and attention. He also does well with cats, we have a cat that they play and love on each other.
