Update: After further digging and speaking to another county shelter where he was originally adopted as a puppy, we have confirmed Lucky is actually only 10 years old (not 16).
This sweet old man’s name is Lucky, but he doesn’t seem very lucky right now. Lucky needs a rescue miracle! He is about 16 years old, 48lbs, and has severe arthritis. His owner is sadly homeless and had to bring Lucky here 1/12. Owner surrenders are always sad or upsetting, but sometimes it’s in the best interest of the animal. At least Lucky is warm, hopefully his former owner is too. Lucky has untreated torn ligaments in both knees - which has caused the arthritis. He will need pain management for the rest of his life. Lucky is already neutered and heartworm negative. While Lucky is sheltered from the cold, he could stand to be much warmer – preferably snuggled in a blanket on a cozy bed – like a good, senior boy deserves. Please help Lucky find some luck in life again!!
Exam notes 1/14: BAR BCS = 4/9. MM = pink and moist. Heart and lungs - clear. Abdomen - soft and non painful. No palpable testicles. Sporadic crusting and thin haircoat over dorsum. Bilateral abduction of stifles.
Xrays - Lat/VD pelvis and rear legs. Significant DJD and effusion bilateral stifles. Mineral opacity of distal gastroc tendon RIGHT tarsus
