This letter is regarding The Hoss. I am in desperate need of a home for him. He is % years old and around 50 lbs. I have had him since birth. He was born to my chow Juno. He was the fathered by a pure bred schnauzer who was evidently a show dog. He is all black with wirey schnauzer hair that I typically keep trimmed or totally shaved. When he is shaved ( which he sits perfectly still for hours for, as I'm no expert dog groomer) he has a a stunning face, broad forehead and is really very handsom. Looks like a big chunky lab mix. When he is all natural, he looks like a real terrier... except for the curley tail and black chow tongue. His mom, was essentially raped while in heat and on a leash near Piedmont Park, where we lived.
His mom ended up with mastitus (an infection in the milk ducts) when the 5 pups were barely 2 weeks old. I bottle fed them ever 2 hours as they were endlessly hungry little puppies. I put together a 3 page packet with information, care instructions and expectations I had for a potential home to be considered before these pups left me. After home inspections and vet references and 12 LONG weeks with these puppies, first round (some had two) of vaccinations, they all found homes. All except The Hoss. He was already home.
I already had a cat another dog and a bird. We lived on the edge of Piedmont Park and lived at the dog park. The Hoss is very well trained and very object focused (ball. stick, toy sheep, etc.) he will do most any trick for a reward or just to please. He has lots of energy and has gone on day lone hikes and camping trips etc. He has also sat patiently while I was 7,8,9 mon. pregnant, in an apartment all summer, not being walked. He can be left alone for many hours, but would ideally live with an avid jogger who works at home. I'm sure this is the case for most any dog, though.
The Hoss is being given up, though as he was in a fight.Three years ago, my parents kept him for 6 months as I was in California and their, now 15 year old doberman-shepard mix, who is untrustworthy with other dogs attacked The Hoss and put him in the Emergency Vet. His ear was badly damaged and neck ripped open and required many, many stitches. Over that time period, the two got together with yet another incident. The Hoss was forever cautious of male dogs that were bigger than him that we encountered, but we still never had another incident at the park or anywhere else.I recently separated from my ex and ended up back at my parents house, again. After some time of being in different parts of the house, the two dogs got together again. This time the attacker was 15 years old and lost. My dog got his revenge and is now kicked out of the house. I managed to keep him here 5 days longer than he was welcome and he has to go now. I really cannot bare the thought of taking him to a shelter and have all that I put into this dog and have him killed just because he won a fight! I'm begging anyone that will listen to take this dog. He lives peacefully with 4 other dogs, 3 cats and a toddler that torments him daily and is perfectly fine. He is a little hyper and barks at the door when someone knocks at it and maybe cannot be trusted with any dog without some rehabilitation... but, that should not end him up in a kill shelter, which most of them are.
I'm reaching out to you to use your contacts and find him a foster home or a forever home or a cage where someone will at least play with him and NOT KILL HIM! He could be a police dog or a watch dog or a family dog. Please help me. I was told I had until the end of the work day to get him out and my only option is my ex who is gone 16 hrs a day housing him until Saturday, And he lives in a pet free building, so is risking it. I have called as many rescues and shelters as you can imagine. I'm out of options.
Please contact me ASAP if you can help me. Thanks!
