Rio is STILL here and needs Rescue ASAP!! He is Rescue Only.
Rio is 5yrs old and 33lbs. He was surrendered by his original owner 8/25 because they got another male dog and Rio was not happy about it. The owner said that it normally takes some time for Rio to warm up to people, although as soon as he met a staff member here he loved him! Rio was very excited, jumping and giving him kisses. Rio has also been fine with other staff too. A volunteer said she thought he was a lap dog, a real sweetheart.
Only three days after being here Rio was adopted on 8/28. Unfortunately on 9/17 Rio was returned to the shelter. His new owner claimed he bit her. Apparently Rio was sleeping with the owner in the bed, the owner got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, Rio moved over into the owner’s spot on the bed, the owner then tried to scoot Rio over, and he bit her. Rio has gone through his 10 day bite quarantine and needs rescue as soon as possible. Due to his history he cannot be placed up for adoption here.
Rio is reported to be housebroken. We think he would be best in a home without children, and without other male dogs. He has not been around cats, so we don’t know how he is with them. Rio is a beautiful boy. We know there is a perfect home out there for him that won’t give up on him, we just need a rescue group to help us find that furever home. Rio is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and neutered.
