To: urgen...@googlegroups.com

All,

Jason and wife have found this gorgeous, mature GSD and describe him as a really easy going lad. Is there anyone out there that could foster or intake him. They are not able to keep him and he is staying in outside in the yard very temporarily (keeps escaping).

More below... sounds like he'd be glad to sponsor vaccines/neuter for big guy. I'm going to refer him to Well Pet Humane as a proactive measure to get things going.

Contact me at ja...@doggieharmony.org if you can help.

Jamie

Thanks, Jamie. I've sent emails to both of these organizations. Waiting for returns. I've also visited a few more vets the area and posted flyers further away.

This boy is super sweet. Has been very nice to everyone. Sits OK. Walks well on a leash. I've walked him into the vet to see if they recognize him, but he hasn't been checked over yet. They say his teeth are worn down in the front, probably older, possibly 7. 82lbs. Non neutered. He may have cataracts in one eye.

Took to a bath well. No sore spots, marks, or scars. Ears and feet seem clean. Very well demeanored. Barks very little unless someone (other than my wife and I) comes into the yard. Would make an excellent watchdog for sure. I haven't had him around many dogs, but he seems fine when approached. We had one dog bark incessantly at him and he just ignored him. No lunging, barking, or over-excitedness. Very even-keeled.

He's only been outside. Wouldn't enter the house the first two days. I think he would now, but we aren't ready to test that. We were hoping not to develop new habits with him that may confuse him when he has to leave. We've decided we don't want to keep him and would prefer to find a foster family for him as soon as possible. He has dug under the fence twice to get out of the backyard, but always ends up on the deck or the porch when we arrive home. So right now, I am having trouble containing him when I am away. I can't assure he isn't running around the neighborhood. And since he isn't fixed yet, he very well could be up to something.

If I don't receive a call from the owner by noon tomorrow, I will probably set up an appointment for neutering and tests.

Let me know if you can help. Thanks.

Definitely contact the other two GSD rescues below as well. Unfortunately, we don't have a shelter, but we are always happy to post these on Petfinder/our other websites in hope that someone will see their picture/bio and want to adopt them if someone is willing to hang on to them until a home can be found.

You will likely find that even rescue groups that have shelters are very limited in space. The poor economy has only increased the number of homeless pets and foster homes/shelters are filled to the brim. Please know that the county-run shelters are not 'no kill' -- animals surrendered to them can be put down on the day that they arrive to make space for other incoming animals. If you can hang on to this dog until a new home can be found or talk a friend into fostering him, we're happy to help.

We will circulate him to our network of fosters (just in case one can be turned up). Can you tell me as much as you know about him? Approx age? Has he had any vetting since you found him? Does he like other dogs? Cats? And, give me an idea of his temperament around people and/or reaction to being handled, behavior when fed, etc.

Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jamie. I've contacted German Shepherd Rescue Group of GA. They said they would have to wait 7 days before proceeding. I'm afraid I can't keep him. He is super sweet but I am not willing to foster him. Do you know anyone who might be interested in giving him a good home? I am afraid his original owner is not looking for him at this point.

He sure is handsome and I'd agree, he's likely PB GSD. You might send him along to local GSD rescues to see if they recognize him:

Canine Pet Rescue Corp -             770-307-6057      , Email: ad...@caninepetrescue.com Web: www.caninepetrescue.com
German Shepherd Dog Rescue Group of GA, Inc. - E-mail: gagsd...@bellsouth.net Web: www.gashepherd.org
Southern Cross German Shepherd Rescue, Inc, -             706-754-6777      , Email: southerncro...@gmail.com. Web:www.southerncrossgsd.com

They also might express interest in taking him into their rescue, should it turn out that he's abandoned. Sadly, foreclosures have forced many people into leaving their dogs behind -- and often in backyards b/c they know if they take them to the county shelter, the dogs will likely be euthanized to make space for the constant influx of strays.

Would you be willing to take care of this dog until another home could be found him -- again, assuming you don't turn up an owner? If so, we'd be happy to list him on our adoption sites and advise on inexpensive vetting (possibly even raise some funds to get his needs taken care of). We don't have a shelter, so I'm afraid that's really all we can offer -- a supportive hand.

My group, Doggie Harmony, was started by myself and a neighbor who volunteered at PAWS Atlanta together and decided we didn't need to go to another part of town to help homeless dogs, when they were turning up in Brookhaven pretty frequently. Here's more about us -- www.doggieharmony.org -- and just one of the sites we utilize to promote the dogs for adoption -- http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/GA627.html

Thanks for looking out for him!

Jamie

After visiting a few vets today, it appears this guy may be full blood German Shepherd. The broken restraint lead me to believe he's got an owner out there somewhere. If you know where this boy belongs, please contact me at any time.

See picture in photos section labeled "Found Dog March19".
Thanks.
