اردو ہندسوں کا معاملہ

اخبارات رسائل میں تو اب اردو ہندسے نظر
آنا بند ہوگئے ہیں اور انگریزی نمبر ہی
استعمال ہوتے ہیں۔ یعنی تحریر تو اردو
ہوگی مگر ہندسے انگریزی کے۔ ایسا لگتا ہے
نوجوان نسل اردو نمبروں کو فرموش ہی کر
دے گی۔
کیا یہ واقعی مسئلہ ہے؟ اگر ہے تو ہل کیا
تجویز کیا جائے؟

My apologies for writing the response in English. I believe the problem has also some thing to do with the level of difficulty in Urdu counting. If you look at other languages, for e.g. English, Arabic, German etc. you will find that after 10 or 20 digits, the rest of counting is simply repetition of the digits you have learned between 0 and 10 or 0 and 20. In English, after 20 you start the repetition 21, 22, 23 etc. and this repetition continues till 100 and onwards.

In Urdu it’s a completely different story. We have one different word to remember for each number. There is no repetition because of which Urdu counting has become significantly difficult to remember. We need to remember 100 different words for remembering 100 digits in Urdu counting. Isn't this very frustrating?

I believe we can have Bees Aik, Bees Do, Bees Teen etc. instead of Ik'is, Ba'is, Ta'is etc. and then Tees Aik, Tees Do, Tees Teen... Because of the level of difficulty Urdu counting is not famous among youth and they tend to always use English counting. That is also one reason why its not used in writing and people because of their habit use English counting.

اردو فونٹ چونکہ ہندسے اردو میں ہی لکھتے
ہیں، اس طرح جب لوگ اردو میں لکھیں گے تو
عربی ہندسے بھی دیکھنے میں آئیں گے۔
ویسے فرق تو صرف شکل میں ہی ہے۔ جہاں تک
گنتی بولنے کا تعلق ہے تو ۱۰۰ کے بعد لفظ
دہرانا شروع تو ہو ہی جاتے ہیں۔ یہ اچھا
نکتہ ہے، مگر بنیادی طور پر کوئی رکاوٹ
نہیں ہے۔
