When I moved my store from Ohio to Virginia, I did not add the needlework kits, etc.to my web site. I am sorting through the boxes and posting those that are still useable. These items are all at least 25 yearsold and have been in storage most of that time. They would be an inexpensive way to learnneedlepoint, cross stitch, or various types of embroidery.
All packages to destinations outside the U.S. will ship using a service called Global Post. Thisis a service where I send packages to a collection point in the US, then they arebundled and shipped to other countries by Global Post for customs clearance. Once customsare cleared, the local post office delivers your package.
Susan and her husband, Jim, have spent decades building the kind of store she wanted to see when she was learning to weave and hoping to grow her fiber skills: one with a wide selection of yarns, a lively education program, and lots and lots of books. Yarn Barn of Kansas occupies thousands of square feet with a storefront, classroom, and a massive warehouse stacked with boxes of yarn. (Jim says that he can easily prove that they have ten tons of inventory, and the stock room has a directory to help staff find just the right box.)
Located in rural Cheshire, the Black Sheep Craft Barn is, we believe, the largest dedicated knitting and stitching shop in the UK. However, we are still very much a village store with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff always happy to help!
We stock a huge range and Inside the Craft Barn you'll find yarn in a multitude of different weights and colours from all of the biggest and best yarn brands through to knitting and crochet supplies, patterns, books, crafting kits, accessories and so much more.
We were the first Rowan Flagship store in the country, and stock an enormous range of their books and yarns plus lots of sample garments to give you inspiration. Our shop staff are trained to advise with Rowan queries and we run popular regular events and fashion shows.
We know there's a lot to take in when you visit us! Recharge your batteries in our Tea Bags Full tea shop and enjoy homemade cakes, snacks, freshly brewed coffee, a cuppa or a soft drink. You'll be ready to get back to browsing in The Craft Barn in no time!
Catherine to knit continental from a girlfriend in a high school. She began with intarsia and then a fisherman knit sweater. She had been sewing since age twelve. She had a retail store as an adult, which became difficult when she had three children at home under age 5. She later recognized the beauty of hand-painted yarns a few years ago. She began Red Barn Yarn with about 25 colors which has grown to 25 bases and 100 colors.
I had to interrupt my knitting to comment about the great podcast that I listened to today with Marly and Catherine of Red Barn Yarn. Would I ever love to try the mink yarn. Pick me!!

I have been crocheting for 30 plus years, but because of this podcast I started knitting 6 weeks ago. I am enjoying it and am actually pretty stinking good at it so far. I hope I win this mink yarn. Have a great day.
Where to find the best places to purchase weaving yarn and other materials has been one of the most asked questions in every class and workshop that I have taught. Ideally, everyone would have a local yarn store (LYS as it is affectionately known) in their area, but some of us are not lucky enough to have a LYS in our area that sells weaving yarn.
So here are some of my favorite online yarn stores and I have included their brick and mortar locations in case they also happen to be your LYS (lucky you!) These are all stores where you can find yarns suitable for weaving- unlike the novelty yarns found at most craft stores.
The Woolery is one of my favorite online yarn stores! Full disclosure: I am an affiliate, but only because I like them so much! I always check them first when I am looking to order new yarn or supplies.
Every time that I have ordered from them, they have always been efficient and I have never had any issues. The Woolery is always quick to answer questions and I love that they have a chat feature (they ask that you please weave a message) on their website to talk to someone even quicker!
They have a fantastic selection of yarns in many different colors that are categorized by yarn type making it easy to find what you are looking for. You can search through pages of cellulose, protein, synthetic, and other weaving yarns. Make sure to look at the info they offer on the yarns they sell. You can find useful stats including ypp, recommended warp sett, and more!
They also offer a wide range of looms (floor, rigid heddle, and frame) as well as weaving tools, and other fiber art tools. The majority of their equipment is new, but sometimes you can navigate to their used equipment page to find some deals!
Shipping is quick and I appreciate their great customer service as well as how easy their website is to maneuver. They include a lot of great information about all their yarns in case you have any questions about their use. One thing that Yarn Barn does that I really like is they often include potential uses for each yarn (great for towels etc.) This can help you to determine if it will drape well or if it will hold up to heavy use.
Yarn Barn separates their yarn first by type of Fiber Art and then by type of fiber. You know you are viewing only weaving yarns when you go through that category on their site. *Note that just because it is a weaving yarn, that does not mean it is necessarily suitable for warp.
They are located about an hour from Penland School of Craft if you decide to make a day trip when you are there for a workshop. The staff was knowledgeable and they have a lot of products to choose from.
Their website is not as user friendly as The Woolery or Yarn barn due to the way they have it organized. They also have less to choose from when it comes to yarn, but they do carry Dragon Tale cotton yarn which I am quite fond of.
Massachusetts Street shops have been a retail cornerstone of Lawrence for more than 150 years. When the Internet and the idea of e-commerce first came to bear, some feared that could spell the end of mom-and-pop stores and personal service.
To the contrary, two Mass. St. retail outlets, one a long-term presence and the other a relative newcomer, have managed to grow and sustain foot traffic while quietly building a regional and national clientele online: keeping a firm hold on the value of customer service. Both have used new technologies, including social media, in ways that allow their online offerings to complement their brick-and-mortar stores and vice versa.
Owner Jim Bateman says that the store has approximately 7,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) for its inventory, which includes yarns of every type and so many colors it is mind-boggling. For decades, Yarn Barn has had a large catalog following, which has been maintained alongside online ordering. In early 2015, the store plans to launch a new website that both navigates more easily and offers interactive tools for customers to better envision their potential projects.
Shopping for yarn, knitting and weaving hardware is not the only purpose of the Yarn Barn website. It is also where both beginning and experienced crafters sign up for classes in their chosen handicraft.
As its clientele continued to expand, so did the need for a more robust online and social media presence. In October 2013, Fortuity launched its new website and online store, to what has become a rousing success. The store, which also has a location in Manhattan and the Country Club Plaza, put a high priority on building a social media presence.
Yarn Barn and Fortuity are different retail businesses with different core customers, and yet both operate successful storefronts in two places: Mass St. and online. The stores also do more than just sell things; both make use of unique electronic and social media to connect with and even inspire their customers.
