We are in early stage planning and are considering something from the J-500 trim line. Jacuzzi has a proprietary smart tub platform called "ProLink" [ -us/hot-tubs/products/accessories/prolink-app] to connect with your tub via an ios or android app via wifi. Looks like the functionality that we'd want, so should I even bother trying to integrate? What benefit is gained by integrating this functionality with C4, if it is even possible to do so?
From experience, I integrated my Ecobees last year via a paid driver and have seen marginal benefit. I can pull up various info on navigators, toggle on/off, override temp, etc, and do some light programming (IFTTT), but the most compelling feature of the Ecobee, IMHO, the comfort setting scheduler, is achieved outside of C4 through the native app and all of the preceeding can be accomplished via the Ecobee app. So net-net, I got very little for the price paid for the (now free) driver.
I would say it is off marginal benefit but there could be some potential cost savings. For example, if you only use the hot tub in the evenings or on weekends then you can turn down the heater temperature from say midnight to 4 pm on weekdays and midnight to noon on weekends - you can (likely) do much more complex scheduling from C4 than from the Jacuzzi app. And if you have 4sight, then you could also easily control the tub remotely - so if you are away on Vacation and realize that you want to turn the heater of then you could do so. But these features you could likely do with the Jacuzzi app as well.
One of the benefits would be the ability to do more complex heater scheduling with C4. I don't know what you can do with the Pentair app but you may want to set different heater schedules for weekdays vs weekends. For example - my spa is never used during the day on weekdays, but it may be on weekends. Therefore you may want to turn down/off the heater from midnight to 4 pm on weekdays and midnight to noon on weekends.
From my research and discussions with Jacuzzi, there is no current solution that integrates with C4 and none planned. Their ProLink subscription works as follows: The unit in your tub communicates with their servers and your device via cellular. There is no LAN port to connect to your switch and no wifi to connect to your network. They do this so that they can sell you an annual subscription.
Another solution, which will totally void your warranty is to insert a contact sensor like cardaccess or otherwise in the power loop, but that really doesn't accomplish anything because the Jacuzzi isn't an on/off device. Others may have other opinions.
In my house, I use the lame Jacuzzi Pro-Link and it's basically there just so i can check the temp and increase / decrease temp, so not totally useless. It can be buggy at times, mainly getting a "cant connect to the tub" notification when trying to use it, but that is solved by doing a circuit breaker power cycle.
A lot of tubs have various "eco" modes, mine for example, only heats between 5pm and 1am when eco is active, so integration is not critical. I like it at 102 when I'm in it, so when I get out I drop it to 95 degrees and the next evening I increase it back to 102. If there was a reliable integration path, that is where Scheduler would really help me out.
Reasons for integration are for power efficiency. I have a large solar setup here (26kW) and a lot of spare solar power during sunny days. I have a bunch of energy monitoring nodes and am just starting to use node-red to run workflows to change properties of certain power hungry devices that are not priority. I have a workflow running already which integrates with control4 that controls a pump running the pool pump via a relay switch. When there is excess solar the pool pump runs. I monitor the amount of run time during free solar hours, if the daily pump running time is not met, it runs the pumps for more time during the cheap rate night hours to make up the pump run time per day.
For the hot tub, I would like control the temperature to govern the heater power usage using the same process. Rather than have to determine if I can reverse engineer the pro-link piece, if C4 was able to control the tub, I can use my existing integration code with C4 to adjust the tub temperature according to power availability.
Not sure if @South Africa C4 user has a Jacuzzi Brand tub or not, feels like he may have a custom tub integrated with his pool. Are you sure your Jacuzzi is connected to your WIFI? I ask because I have been fighting with Jacuzzi Official on Instagram about how their setup works and they insist that Prolink uses cellular connection to link to your tub and electronic device, spewing nonsense that WIFI does not go through walls or water and that their method provides the most trouble free connection. I think they still think it's 2010. Does your Jacuzzi have an IP address on your network? Mine does not, not even recognized on my network.
Still feeling like the method you are mentioning above might not be a great idea, even if you can get it to work. As I see it, without API from Jacuzzi, you will only be able to cut power to the tub / turn on power to the tub. Not a great idea IMHO because even when the tub isn't heating, the circulation pump and Clearay UV light need to be operating to keep the tub sanitized. For every hour you are cutting power to the tub, you lose those.
@GadgetBazza, I am afraid to say that @joecheechis correct. My jacuzzi is set up with Pentair equipment (as is my pool) and I use the free Pentair driver (there is an older one for IntelliTouch and a newer one for IntelliCenter - I sue both as my holiday home is a newer setup).
I did spend a few more minutes on this and note that Jacuzzi has TWO smart platforms - Pro-Link which according to the internet - does connect to your WIFI and SmartTub (what I have) which only connects through cellular. Regardless, I think you'll still need their API in order to be able to integrate anything other than power cut. Let us know if you get anywhere.
Hi is it safe to use the Apple watch in a 41-42 degrees C, environment like Jacuzzi, Sauna or Steam Room? At the moment I wear the watch when I swim to track distance, heart rate etc. Usually I use the jacuzzi first to warm up the body's core, then the Sauna to sweat (detox) then I go swim. I leave the watch in my locker and only put on the watch when I swim. Thing is I often forget until I am in the pool. So I have to get back to the locker to get the watch. Great if it is okay to wear in those environment and go to swim in one flow. Anyone got any experience? Thanks.
Per Apple: Water resistance isn't a permanent condition and may diminish over time. Apple Watch can't be rechecked or resealed for water resistance. The following may affect the water resistance of your Apple Watch and should be avoided:
I am using Iwatch 6. I have seen videos of people swimming with it. It is rated as waterproof to 50 meters. So far I have swam with it for 4 occasions, each time about 1 hour. So far so good. I am more concerned about the temperature of 41 to 42 degrees Celsius. I have read some accounts in google that the operating temperature of the Iwatch is lower. I have not used it in a hot water Jacuzzi.
