Dear all,
This training could be interesting to
some
hydro-climatic researchers in this group. The instructors for the training are the professors from Japan who are developers of the APHRODITE products. We encourage you to apply for the training if it is useful to your research work. Also, please feel free to circulate it to your network.
Any queries are highly welcome.

Call for Application for APHRODITE Data Interpolation Training

27-28 November 2017

The Small Earth Nepal in partnership with Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) and Asian Precipitation - Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation (APHRODITE) project is going to organize three-day training on APHRODITE in Kathmandu, Nepal from 27-28, November, 2017. Participants will be given training for two days (27 and 28 November) and will be given assignments in relation to the training, which will be followed up in the one day interaction program on 1 December 2017.

The APHRODITE-1 project created accurate daily grid precipitation data for the period 1951-2007 over Asian land areas with a high spatial and temporal resolution based on rain-gauge observations. The APHRODITE-2 project started in June 2016 and will continue until March 2019 funded by the Ministry of Environment of Japan. Hirosaki University, Kyoto University and Chiba University are now collaborating for the further development of the APHRODITE algorithm in extending the more data set and with more focus on extreme events. Therefore, as a part of the capacity building for climate researchers from Himalayan region, especially from Nepal, a training seminar has been scheduled in Kathmandu. The instructors are the developers of the APHRODITE products.

Interested participants are requested to apply for the training with a letter of interest and contact details by 30 September 2017. The prerequisites are 1) to provide original observational daily (sub-daily) precipitation data, temperature data and/or glaciological data (incl. field campaigns) over the Himalayas, and 2) participants should have experiences in using a Linux machine. Priority will be given to those who can bring personal computer with Linux operating environment, and who have high programming skills. Targeted participants are climate and atmospheric researchers who are familiar with meteorological data and analysis

More details of the training and application process is available on the link http://www.smallearth.org.np/aphrodite-data-training/

Regards,

APHRODITE training organizer
