Dear All
Forwarding this email from my colleague, I would like to put my opinion that while we are discussing about the transboundary cooperation for water resources sharing and management,  such type of integrated approach within every nation and then in regional level could even encourage policy makers and politicians to further cooperation in the issues.

Here is the update of Nepal National Water Week 2013

I would like to share some updates about Nepal National Water Week (NNWW)-2013 which is being celebrated in Nepal to mark the World Water Day, 22 March, every year. A week long programmes are organized from 17 March to 23 March, with the involvement of more than 40 organizations including different Government and non-governmental agencies, private sectors, academic institutions, youth organizations, etc. The event is organized under the coordination of Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS)/Government of Nepal. The Organizing Committee of NNWW formed under the Chair of the Secretary of WECS comprises different personalities from different organizations in Nepal. This is a national effort of organizations in Nepal working in water sector and has been started since 2009 on the occasion of World Water Day. Its main objective is to bring all stakeholders working in water sector in a common platform to share their activities and raise unified voice in water related issues in national level.

This year too, the NNWW has been started from 17 March 2013 with a formal opening programme in Kathmandu. The Chief Guest, Hon. Madhav Prashad Ghimire, Minister, Ministry of Home affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the opening session with his valuable speech showing Government’s solidarity to the efforts of water stakeholders. Minister Ghimire commented the national policy and programmes on water sectors have been more focused towards its use and also highlighted the importance to focus on water resources management. He also focused on having balance between water and people. Water diseases should be eradicated in villages too. Multiple uses of water resources should be done. However, technology should be affordable. In Kathmandu, due to scarcity of drinking water, there is feeling of importance of water but overall, it should be increased nationwide. Water’s average use should be optimized. He also suggested the organizers to prepare a conceptual framework and the feedback to submit to the Government, to aware the policy makers on the issues.

The opening programme was also attended by the guests, the Director General of ICIMOD, Country Representative of WaterAid, Program Head of Urban WASH programme of Practical Action, Conservation Director of WWF Nepal, and representatives from many other organizations.
