Rosh Hashanah begins the night of September 4.

Are you looking for a place to go? Check out the link below for information. There are many different kinds of synagogues in town. Some don't require tickets or offer free ones to young adults. If you would like advice on finding a good fit, send me a note with what you are looking for by 9 am on Tuesday August 27 and I will advise you as best I can. 


As you gear up for the High Holidays don't miss these free Jewish learning opportunities. The teachers are terrific and I find it is a great opportunity to reflect.

Looking Out For Number 1: Balancing the Commitment to Oneself and Others - with Jan Rabinowitch

Yom Kippur, with Jan Rabinowitch

The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, is considered one of the holiest days of the year, set aside for fasting and deep introspection. Jan Rabinowitch will lead a text-based discussion exploring the Biblical origins of the holiday and its significance over the thousands of years it has been observed. Offered during the Days of Awe, the time between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, this free session will enrich your understanding and experience of the holiday, no matter your level of observance. Free Will and Sin, with Dr. Erica Goldman 
Thursday, September 12

Shir Tikvah (621 NE 76th Ave, Portland) 

Judaism's perspectives on sin and free will are of special significance during the High Holy Days, the time of introspection between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. This free class will cover selections of important texts ranging from the Torah to the Talmud, to modern Jewish insights.
