Please check out and support this initiative.  Raine Eisler, anthropologist and social economist, talks about the need to shift our values if any lasting change to social and economic systems is to be made.  She talks in particular about the need to value caring and care giving in a real way as a foundation for a healthy economy.

Molly (the person who wrote the email below) is sister to Sara who is a current member of Woodfolk.

thx.

Hello!

So, the basic idea is a free childcare collective.  At the start it would offer as per needed care (regular childcare, occasional babysitting, childcare for events, etc.).  The more people involved the better the ability to meet childcare needs.  This is not volunteering, this is people sharing time with others in their community who need it.  I know in my personal experience babysitting, though, I gain a lot from spending time with kids.  There is no strong committment requirement, and most of the major decisions about the group are yet to be made as I did not want to form such an organization without the input of those who want to be involved.  he first (of several) interests meetings is at Random Row Books (315 W Main) this Saturday at 4 p.m.  If you cannot make it, please feel free to contact me.  And please feel free to forward the information/flyer!

Thanks,
Molly
