Hello out there!
When I left Twin Oaks there were a number of things I was looking for. One of them were the issues that seem to be at the heart of what's not working in our society. Very quickly money stood out.
I've been working with a handful of people to start a dialog project aimed at addressing the stress, confusion, and isolation most people feel about money and the money system. The aim is for people to transform their dis-empowered relationship to money to one full of abundance and cooperation, benefiting their personal lives as well as their communities and region.
We had a small gathering last week where we watched the first part of
The Money Fix, and then had an unstructured discussion both about money and about how to have an effective discussion about money. We'll be hosting a larger gathering
Friday, March 4th at 7:30pm (location TBD) to further this. Three possible directions have been emerging in initial conversations:
1. Starting an on-going group to really dive into this stuff. The idea is to start by exploring people's personal, emotional, every-day experience of money, while learning more about money and the money system. This lead in a number of directions: finding ways to alleviate financial stress, engaging with the money system in an empowered and cooperative way, looking at alternative economic systems, making changes to local and regional economic systems, etc.
2. Engaging artists in using the arts as a catalyst for thought and dialog about money and economics in the wider community. This could bring juice and life to a topic that most people experience, at best, as dry and obtuse. And it could create an opportunity for artists to contribute to a dialog about something so fundamental to our experience in modern life.
3. Creating a body of ideas, materials, structures, and guides to foster and facilitate groups of people formally or informally engaging in with this dialog.
Surely many other directions exist, and these different directions could feed each other in obvious and unexpected ways. Please come help explore this vast territory! More details to come.
thx.
