July 19 2013 – Civic Ecology: a living community framework for resilient cities | Tim Smith, a certified planner and a registered architect.
ABSTRACT:
Cities and communities are experiencing profound impacts from unsustainable growth on a finite planet: resource scarcity, species extinction, food insecurity, and poverty – all which threaten our future. Undermining a timely and an effective response is a persistent lack of political will to address these issues.
This session will explain the Civic Ecology planning approach; describe its underlying principles, community benefits and integrated planning process. The presenter will provide examples of projects that have employed the approach highlighting built initiatives in a variety of contexts.
