FW: UCLA Lewis Center Housing Affordability Post Doctoral Position

The UCLA Lewis Center is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work with us studying housing policy and the impact of land use reforms in California. They will be part of a research team with Drs Michael Lens, Michael Manville, Paavo Monkkonen, and José Loya in the Departments of Urban Planning and Public Policy, and Shane Phillips, who manages the Lewis Center Housing Initiative.

 

The successful applicant will spend half their time designing and implementing an evaluation of California’s accessory dwelling unit laws on ADU production, housing prices and rents, and land values. This project is funded by HUD and allows us to investigate the hypothesis that “broad upzoning” can increase housing capacity and production without substantially increasing land values. The remainder of their appointment will be evenly divided between research at the nexus of housing policy and homelessness, and self-directed research.

 

Applications are open to all qualified candidates, but we especially encourage applications from women, gender minorities, people of color, and other backgrounds underrepresented in the housing and land use field. Applicants working from Los Angeles are preferred. This is a one-year position with the option to renew for a second year.
