We are thrilled to announce that over the past year, the
City Form Lab has developed a new library of Urban Network Analysis tools for Rhinoceros 3D. We are releasing it FREE again.
To run the toolbox, you will need Rhinoceros version 5 on windows with latest updates installed (you can download free updates from Rhino/help/check for updates).
The UNA Rhino toolbox is significantly faster that its GIS counterpart, which has been available as a plugin for ArcGIS since 2012. You have the ability to rapidly create and edit networks from any Rhino curve objects, making network design and redesign simple and intuitive. The analytic options available to the user have expanded, giving you more precise control to analyze exactly what you need for every unique spatial network problem.
Similar to the GIS UNA toolbox, the Rhino toolbox can be used to calculate accessibility indices, estimate the flow of pedestrian movement or traffic over spatial networks, or find alternative route options for urban design, planing and architectural design applications. The Rhino3D toolbox adds new functionality that can not be achieved in GIS, runs much faster and makes the use of the tools more accessible for designers and practitioners. Having UNA metrics in Rhino not only allows you to analyze how a specific spatial network performs, but to also incorporate the analysis into a fast and iterative design process, where networks can be designed, evaluated and redesigned in seamless cycles to rapidly improve the outcome.
The toolbox is in beta version. It is still in development and we look forward to your feedback and suggestions in making it better for day-to-day design and research projects.
If you have any questions about the UNA Rhino toolbox, please email
rhin...@mit.edu. We will be updating and improving the toolbox over the next few months and look forward to your feedback.
