BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption.

I watched the original chariot race with the great Charlton Heston and the impressive Stephen Boyd. Reading all of the unbelievable work, sweat and preparation that went into this towering epic and the chariot race as Mr.Heston writes in his autobiography In The Arena is truly mind boggling! Charlton Heston was already a major star and icon of the big screen when he was cast in the leading role by multiple Oscar winning director William Wyler. The music score by the great Miklos Rosa and the opening music to credits is so powerful and astounding. After re watching the 1959 chariot race and the rowing of the valley slaves scenes again then watching the new Ben Hur trailer I can say we are in for nothing more than the new Ben Hur RE-FAKE!!!

Hi Ruth! Thanks for the reply. I agree. Reading Mr.Hestons fabulous and fascinating stories of what it took to make Ben Hur (he trained every day on the chariot for 6 months) gives us incredible insight of the stagerring amount of work and dedication by the actors, directors and everyone else including the tens of thousands of extras to make this landmark epic! I met Mr.Heston at Book Soup in Hollywood and he signed my copy of his autobiography!

The first trailer for the long-gestating reboot of the epic 1959 William Wyler film sees Jack Huston in the famous Charlton Heston role, as the infamous nobleman turned slave who seeks vengeance on his usurping adoptive brother, played by Toby Kebbell.

The trailer shows Jack Huston as the titular Jewish prince betrayed into slavery by his adapted brother Messala, played by Toby Kebbell. The story centers on Ben-Hur wreaking vengeance upon Messala through a race with plenty of chariots, horses and riders soaring through the air and colliding with one another.

The 1959 movie, which was set in ancient Rome, was directed by William Wyler and produced by Sam Zimbalist. It starred Heston, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins and Hugh Griffith, and won 11 Oscars, including best picture.

If you've ever watched 1959's Charlton Heston classic Ben-Hur and found yourself wondering what it might look like with CG horses and ramped up set pieces set to clanging guitars, the trailer for the new take, starring Jack Huston, has the answer.

Lew Wallace's novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ has been brought to screens a few times, most famously in that Oscar-Winning 1959 Heston version, directed by William Wyler. But its history hasn't deterred Timur Bekmambetov, who has crafted the latest attempt.

As is standard, this is the story of Judah Ben-Hur (Huston), a prince who is falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. He's separated from the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi's Esther) and thrown into slavery, where he spends the next five years. But then the Roman galley he's aboard is shipwrecked and he finds himself with a chance at revenge, helped by wisdom and training from Morgan Freeman's Ilderim. And he gets his big chance during a chariot race. Because what's a Ben-Hur without chariot racing?

Paramount and MGM Pictures have updated the classic 1959 film, with their remake due for release on 26 August 2016 (certificate: TBC). The films are based on Lew Wallace's 1880 novel, Ben-Hur: a tale of the Christ.

Damaris Media are providing free official community resources for the new film (cert. TBC). They have produced a Discussion Guide designed for use by church groups, as well as a Youth Activity Pack for youth groups of all kinds. Also available is a video trailer specially created for the church (see video above), with further special videos to come. When the trailer for the new Ben-Hur was released, the internet went a little silly. There were people complaining that the classic 1959 version was being remade (scandal!) and then there were people who pointed out that the beloved Charlton Heston flick was itself a remake. (Guess which club I belonged to.)

Then there were the wags who proclaimed that all Ben-Hur films were remakes of the 1907 version. While they were clearly just being silly and having some fun, these remarks inspired me to revisit the 1907 film and clear up the remake misconception. This is one of those half-myths, something that gets spread around because the real story takes a bit longer to tell. However, the true story is really interesting so I thought this would be a good time to share it. Please forgive me for being pedantic but I absolutely love this topic!

Thank you! Yes, there is not much information about the 1907 version online but the background is absolutely intriguing. This is one of those films that is not so much fun to watch as it is fun to discuss.
