I love all of the Coachella inspired fashion that comes out around this time each year. But I feel like a lot of it is just not practical for my lifestyle- I am crazy about this hat but seriously. Could you imagine me in a flowy sundress and a fringey bag, wearing this hat and walking with a client (assuming I still had one) into Court? "Your Honor, let me take off my flower crown before we begin". Riiigghhht. I am always trying to take whatever the trends are and adapt them to my lifestyle. 5 days of the week- I am in lawyer mode. Weekends? Mostly yoga pants and anything that lets me move and do mommy things! When I saw the hat at Nordstrom, I wanted something a little more versatile than a festival type sundress to wear it with. I spotted this white eyelet skirt (also at Nordstrom) and was sold. I think it will also look so cute with a graphic t and some Chucks, or maybe a zip up hoodie and some flat sandals. And this little leather bag... I got it on Etsy ( I am a HUGE supporter of small businesses, especially those run by women) and the monogramming. I am UHbsessed with it. Everything I own that can be monogrammed... is. I love it. Its sort of unhealthy, how much I want to monogram things. Almost everything my daughter wore until age 3 was initialed. I was trying to talk my husband into giving our dogs a middle name so we could get them monogrammed collars (totally normal, right?)

This was such a fun shoot. First, I am outdoors and I love anything that gets me out of the house and into the sunshine. I am a high energy gal and prone to skipping, leaping etc at the drop of a (floppy, blush-colored) hat. It doesn't take much to make me happy :) Plus, it was the magic hour- that dusky time of the day when its not yet night, but no longer day- you know? I love LOVE this time. Dusk is my favorite. I feel like anything can happen- and (judging by my leap) - it did! It's the dancer in me (or in my head)! Thank you so much for stopping by and we hope your week is amazing! Don't forget to follow us on Instagram @golddustandsugarlust. xoxo Michelle

The Chikuhodo GSN-04 is a mix goat/squirrel, it also has the benefit to work with all blushes, has grip, blending power and its medium density allows it to follow your face features without hurting or altering your base application.

I did not buy backups of the ones I could not live without so I just hope I never loose them or damage them, I know at some point I will have to purchase a second one because brushes are items that are used and washed hence they have a life span.

No need to be awake to use these, so foolproof and so easy to handle, we all need one in our collection, you probably already have yours, it is so important to be able to use any blush you have without having to look for the appropriate brush, these would fit anything:

My research was successful, I found brushes that were softer than Mac and just as easy to use, they are very important to me and I also have my favorite category for these! I could mention a lot of them here but I am just going to pick the black dyed ones, 100% goat hair that are as thick and resilient as Mac but just softer.

The collector has also to keep an eye on Limited Edition releases and sets that are made for special occasions or with special materials or with special designs. The best way to keep informed and have the heads up is to hop to the forum, because I have passionate friends who are brush agents and who always manage to find the most unique special brushes and when we do, we post it there.

The sets I am the most happy about are the Chikuhodo Kiwami, the Koyudo Saibikoho, all the Chikuhodo Noel releases, the special Koyudo series and in the near future the Koyomo, a new brand that will soon be reviewed here.

The Chikuhodo GSN series have been designed for make-up artists but the other Chikuhodo series (R) are fantastic too, I would just avoid delicate squirrel brushes as regular washing will reduce their life span and damage the delicate bristles. After asking so many people in Japan, I came to the conclusion that the best frequency to wash them is 4 months or so -depends if you see they need more regular washing-, also harsh products can dry the bristles, in between washes, clean them with a microfiber cloth. Rae Morris squirrel bristles are soft but tougher so there is much less risk, you can check the interview of Rae Morris here where I asked her how she cleaned them.

We all have a different brush softness perception and our own pain threshold, the brush and the technique used can either help or aggravate it. If you are a make-up artist just starting your career, you will notice the gap between working on a young or a mature skin and if you are gentle with those who need it, they will come back ?

Sonia, thank you so much for your generosity. I have started buying Koyudo brushes for personal use and is waiting for my second shipment to arrive. I intend to buy some more from other brands based on your recommendations to add on to my collection. As I did makeup for performances on a voluntary and regular basis, what would you advise on the brand and tools so that I can make good of them and need not have to fork out a lot. Many thanks. A great fan from Singapore.

Hi Sonia, do you use these brushes for bronzer and contouring as well as blush, or do you use one of the face brushes for that purpose? I want to get a brush for contouring +/- bronzing (both powder products) so would appreciate some guidance! Thank you

I have now read your post for the third time and each time I see something new to absorb. I need to whip out my GSN-04 since that one was features in so many categories. I think powder and cheek brushes are my weakness, so I loved this post. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

Thanks for the incredibly informative and detailed post! I ordered the CDjapan beauty brush set and Koyudo canadian squirrel blush from cdjapan.com based on your recommendations. I received them today and they are absolutely incredible! Sooo soft and beautiful. Blush brushes are definitely my weakness. I think I have more blush brushes than blush!

The lipsticks look exactly like the Dior Addict Perfume packaging, just a mini version. A mirrored transparent acrylic forms the cap which you have the Dior logo embossed and the bullet is held inside a silver barrel fitted with a little rounded knob (which is for pulling the bullet out).

A medium fuchsia pink with a light pink CD logo, applies smooth and balmy with sheer buildable colour. As you can see the inner portion of the swatch is noticeably lighter and brighter, this is due to the contrasting colour of the CD logo in the middle which tones down the intensity of the fuchsia.

However I feel the real draw though is the limited edition CD logo embellishment on the bullet, which is actually functional and not purely decoration. The best part being this runs all the way through the bullet and is not going to wear out with just a few uses.

Only thing to keep in mind when purchase is that the colour variants are quite subtle when worn specially if you have very pigmented lips. Therefore picking up 4-5 shades of this collection is not a necessity! After all they are quite the splurge. In any case I believe they make a nice addition to your lipstick wardrobe specially for summer and worth picking up, if only just one.

Lastly I hope you found this review useful even though it took a while to get my reviews out! Which were your picks from this collection? Are you planning on getting any? I personally think the nail polish Sunwashed (reviewed here) and the blush to be the best buys.

This bedroom, interestingly, was the reason we decided to buy our old, barely inhabitable house in downtown Anchorage. It wasn't the old shag carpet or that gorgeous light fixture up there. It was this view:

During our remodel process (See what we did to the bathroom, living room and kitchen), we painted the room white, changed out the carpet and put in new windows, but it took me a while to actually make it feel like a restful sanctuary. (Haha! Ironic to have a comfy bedroom, though, because with two kids we never really get sleep).

My dad and I made the headboard from a solid birch door that used to be downstairs. It's a little beat-up, but I like it. The house's former owner made all the doors and they have really grown on me. The blush bedspread is DKNY, I found it at Bloomingdales.com. The throw pillows (fuzzy and metallic) came from Pier 1. The light gray sheets are flannel from Costco. I already had the gray blanket and pillow cases.
