Not that we all have tons of money lying around, but this is a really great cause so I encourage you to give a little if you can or at least pass the information on to those who might be able to.

Subject: PEACE EDUCATION WEEKEND - WE NEED FOR YOU TO SPONSOR A PARTICIPANT
To: IPCRI-Ne...@googlegroups.com, ipcr...@googlegroups.com

 Dear Friends

On April 24-25 we will be convening another PEACE EDUCATION WORKSHOP in Jerusalem.  We are expecting between 150-200 participants.

Studies conducted by IPCRI on Israeli and Palestinian public opinion has found that one of the reasons why there has been an almost total breakdown of confidence between Israelis and Palestinians is because both sides believe that the other side teaches hatred in the classroom.  When asked to identify “what would convince you that the other side was truly interested in peace” respondents replied: “if they begin to teach peace in the classroom”. Education is the translation of a society's values into practice.  It contains the messages and values that the society wishes to impart to the next generation.  That is why it is so compelling.  That is why the success of the current peace process is dependent on making peace education an integral part of the educational systems in Israel and in Palestine.

Education for peace and democracy is an essential element of conflict management and resolution. Imparting values of non-violent resolution of disputes to the next generation and enabling them to have a better understanding of the complexities of the conflict can have a great impact on the possibilities for resolving the conflict.

Prior to each workshop we will call on the potential participants, through our vast network of contacts and through the schools systems to participate.  Participants are requested to prepare a presentation of some kind – to lead a discussion around a central question, to present a lesson plan, to present a film or a media tool that can be used in peace education, to run a workshop, to give a lecture, etc.

This is truly and dynamic and exciting weekend.  In these days when there is little room for optimism, bringing together a community of peace activists and peace education is more important than ever.

We have no funding for this activity and we need your support.  It costs us $150 per participant and most participants cannot afford to pay.  We request every participant to pay a minimum fee of $25 – and that is what most pay.  Please consider sponsoring 1 or more participants.  If that is not possible, please consider offering partial sponsorship for a participant.

Thank you,

Gershon and Hanna
