Subject: Timely Talk on Cucurbit Downy Mildew for SC Watermelon and Other Cucurbit Growers

Cucurbit downy mildew has been reported on watermelon in North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey within the past week. The strain or strains of cucurbit downy mildew that infect watermelon seem to be somewhat specialized for this host, based on analysis done at North Carolina State University. Thus, it is important for watermelon growers to pay attention to downy mildew reports this fall. All cucurbit (vine) crops in South Carolina are at serious risk from downy mildew this fall. See the attached Timely Talk on "Downy Mildew Threatens Watermelon and Other Cucurbit Crops in South Carolina This Fall" for details.
