Your registration in this course will provide you with: skill shares, discussions, design activities, experience in orchards and forest gardens, skills to create new gardens, natural building visits and hands-on activities, studies of local permaculture sites, immersion in community life, stories and presentations, mapping techniques, networking opportunities, and a certification in permaculture design.
- This course is offered by Sowing Solutions, who is celebrating our work of offering educational permaculture programs for over 19 years.
- A stellar team of professional designers and educators are the teaching team of this long standing permaculture certification program.
- Students of this PDC will learn first-hand about working with design clients and about conducting an ecological design. Participants will experience direct permaculture site design experience while being guided through the ecological design process by a team of professional designers and educators. We work together to design for village residents at local design sites, and for your home sites, while you 'learn by doing'.
- A study of permaculture with Sowing Solutions includes an inspiring study of numerous sites such as: Big River Chestnuts, Wing and a Prayer Pollinator Nursery, Humble Abode Nursery, etc. You can evaluate and learn from these leading northeastern permaculture demonstration sites that have been growing and evolving for many years now.
- Gaining your internationally recognized certification with Sowing Solutions is an experience of empowerment, support, inspiration and skill building.
- All that you learn in this course can be applied at your home.
We will be meeting in person at Sowing Solutions Community Permaculture Center at 'The Permaculture Place' at The Mill in the artisan Village of Shelburne Falls, MA. There will be days during the course when we adventure out on field trips to visit a local land association, local permaculture gardens, nut farms and agroforestry projects, a local straw bale home, a native pollinator plant nursery, etc. We are truly happy to be hosting the course in the village of Shelburne Falls where you will have an opportunity to practice ecological design in town and benefit local village residents.

3. Send in a $300 deposit to hold your seat (non-refundable) or a full tuition payment. Your Attendance:There is funding available for you! (In other words ~ do not let funding stand in your way of this training and certification program!!!)Strategies for fundraising that we have prepared for you are: BIPOC scholarships, partial discount work trade applications, discounts for low income students, college students, front line workers, etc. We also have template letters for fundraising, discounts when you bring a friend, payment plans, and fundraising techniques that we can set up for you. Contact us to talk about many fundraising options and we will share many ideas and strategies with you.
We invite you to attend this inspiring and informative educational event. We will have a number of interesting design projects to work on together. The weekend series format of this course gives our staff a chance to correspond with you during the month between the class sessions, and provides students with ample time to integrate their learning of new course material. The onsite sessions are opportune times for sharing skills, resources, inspiration, networking, and for forming new and lasting friendships.
If You Need to Miss a Day:
If for some reason you need to miss a day, don't worry because you will still be qualified to complete your certification. If you need to miss more than a day, please let us know ahead of time, as we have ways for you to make up certain sessions and there can be alternate classes for you.
We have reserved a spacious retreat house for our course participants, with sprawling gardens and patios, in downtown Shelburne Falls. Overnight accommodations and meals will be arranged onsite for minimal additional fees. Special evening events will happen at this location. Email us to reserve your space!
There will be a Porchfest of music throughout the village during our July weekend! There are beautiful wooded walks along the river at the mill, through our agroforestry park, and over to great swimming spots! A yoga studio is located on campus, as is a bookstore cafe. The artisan village of Shelburne Falls offers much to explore with its many shops, cafes, galleries, as well as the Salmon Falls waterfall and the Bridge of Flowers, river sports, and hiking trails.
