Dear Upstate Locavores,

We hope you are having a wonderful spring and getting ready to enjoy the bounty of local farmers markets and your own gardens, if you haven't already done so.

We hope to see you next week at the Spring Potluck!  See below (and the attached flyer) for more details.  Spread the word...and bring along a friend or two!

What:    Upstate Locavores Spring Local Foods Potluck
When:   Thursday, May 17th,  dinner starts at  6:00 p.m.
Where:   University Lutheran Church,  111 Sloan Street in Clemson (behind downtown parking garage).  Thanks to Eunice Lehmacher for arranging our use of this great location.
Special Topic:  Shawn Jadrnicek from the  Student Organic Farm on the Clemson University Campus will talk about "Four Season Gardening" and the changes he has made at the farm.

Bring a dish to share made with at least one local ingredient.  Also, to make clean-up easier for everyone, please bring along your own dishes, silverware and cup.  Announcements and information about local foods and resources are encouraged, so come prepared to make a brief announcement about your offerings.

We hope you can join us!

Ellie Taylor (654-1331) and Catherine Mobley (868-6530)

P.S. Also, if you are looking for something to do this Saturday, May 12th, you may want to consider attending the Farm Tour at Billy's Goat Hill, a sustainable family farm in Westminster, SC (130 Timber Trail).  The tour itself begins at 10:30 a.m.; a BBQ lunch will be available for purchase for $6.50.  See the baby goats, baby chicks and baby bunnies, the honey bee observation hive, learn about raise bed gardening and integrated pest management, see Billy's red wiggler compost worms, and mingle with the free range chickens and heritage turkeys.  Kids will be entertained with storytelling and a craft table!  Conclude your time at the farm with a visit to the Farm Store.  All of this and more for just $5 for adults and $2 for kids. Call Gaylene at 864-710-3703 for more information and directions.
